  1. I tend to zero in on his quintet records... I didn't know what to expect on this one... but really like it....
  2. it's him with HDR Bigband... Outstanding...!!!! One of his best... I bought it from his website... and although it's not out for a few weeks... they sent me the download version... Very nice... check it out... http://www.greenleafmusic.com/store/productdetail.php?p=147
  3. Okay Good.. What's friggin' amazing (or depressing depending on your POV)... is this same set went for what? $200 when it came out? Somehow I don't think Billie's voice got any worse in the last few years... I don't know if this is the plan.. to reissue these prized/large boxed sets for chump change   ... but I'll take it... :tup
  4. Okay so this is NOT a Membran/Definitive knock-off???? I picked up the Artie Shaw Membran and the sound (and the lack of liner notes) sucked....
  5. What I don't get is why they are calling it an import???
  6. The Lionel Hampton is a must have!... I'd move that one up on the list.... :excited:
  7. I emailed her and got a really nice email back... Apparently she had been there 15 years... !! Totally first class!!!!
  8. I'm totally with you on that one...
  9. that sucks for us... You were in the words of my 4 year old - AWESOME Cindy... Good luck and thanks for the amazing work....
  10. David Murray is about as far out as I can go... (who I do like quite a bit BTW....) Could've guessed that based on your avatar.
  11. I respect anyone who's into it... but Henry Threadgill & Bing ain't happening for me..... <_<
  12. I'm going to have to snap this one up... Hope the price holds for a little while.... thanks for the heads up!!!!
  13. I have to say I have (and like) both of those sets... I would suspect the license on the Smith is going to expire soon....
  14. I'm going to take this as a POSITIVE sign... that the tapes still exist... Wenzel will FIND them and sometime in 2010 we'll be ordering this 9-CD set... I hope you're kidding ... I wish I were! Talked to Wenzel this morning. No news. See also Ghost of Miles' message here (end of second paragraph). By the way, as far as I know no one has said that the Jamal tapes were destroyed, they are just difficult to locate.
  15. So do we know for certain that the tapes were destroyed??? Update anyone? Especially you guys in contact with Wenzel.... I hope you're kidding ... I wish I were! Talked to Wenzel this morning.
  16. Ahmad Jamal last night in Cambridge MA..... Excellent set... even though I'm sick as a dog....
  17. Okay all this talk about these names has got me confused... Who do you consider a jazz singer and why? I consider all of them (except Bing) a jazz singer... Sinatra is on the borderline... but I'm leaning more towards liking his stuff.... What say you????
  18. Coupla hundred maybe.... but I will not be among them.... It would be $119 plus shipping. 7 cd Mosaic sets are usually that price. I don't know if there are 1000 people in the world who would pay that for a 7 cd set of Bing, especially with just a trio backing him on all 7 discs, in good times or bad.
  19. I guess you don't consider Sinatra a jazz singer? Or do you and he's just not your cup of tea...?
  20. not to hijack this thread..... but does anyone have any thoughts about the upcoming Sinatra box below? thanks
  21. I'll be skipping this one.. but I've got my eye on this new Sinatra release coming out in November... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...ER&v=glance I generally avoid the pop/jazz vocal icons... but the Sinatra has got me interested....
  22. IHMO You ain't missing much... I have this set and was EXTREMELY disappointed with it...
  23. okay now that the roof really DID cave in... I copped and got the last two Selects I was holding out on... the Hill Solo and the Woody Herman...
  24. One of the interesting things about this news/thread is that it says a little bit about our buying habits. I, for one, have always taken the following attitude with the Mosaic sets that If I definitely/probably/leaning towards wanting it, and I happen to have a little extra cash, I just get it. The result of this was that when the bad news hit... I had nearly every set I wanted (- a few Selects which are still in print). The downsides is that there are some sets I was VERY disappointed in ... (most notably the Dinah Washington).... Overall though.. I've taken the approach if I'm 55% in favor of a set.. I usually get it... I am glad though that when this debacle happened... it didn't really impact me...
  25. I'm beginning to think it is.... :o Yeah, wonder if this is the tip of the iceberg.
