  1. Ditto the above... Now Dave Douglas Quintet Live at the Jazz Standard - the 2nd set of Dec. 8th 2006... I guess the equivalent would be Disc 8... this is a great set for those of you didn't get it! There is a physical 2cd version available also...
  2. thanks man... that's very helpful...
  3. Some of us are in a Mosaic Recession... I'm leaning toward the Goodman.. but I hate that many alternate takes... Did you get the Goodman?
  4. I have to say... If I was going to get one set... I'm iffy about .. it would probably be the Benny Goodman ahead of the Armstrong any comments????
  5. John Handy Select Discs 1 and 2... I'm finding it a tad (not much)... disappointing.... You know what it is... I was so blown away by the Zeitlin Select I listened to a few days ago... (and this Billie Holliday set I'm listening to in the car).... that everything else is just not really working for me..... now Disc 3.... For some reason... I really like the live sessions a lot more than the studio sessions....
  6. I for one.. want that Damn Betty Carter live Select.... :D
  7. My take on it is this... I have made 6-10 emails/comments making suggestions.. You're right they do give polite responses... sometimes with more feedback than others.. So in general I don't think they really take them into their planning and decision-making process... with ONE exception... I get the sense that the Braxton Arista stuff was always planned by Cuscuna but with constant discussion on this board (and others) they felt there was enough of a market for it... They even say so in the brochure... " "For years customers have been requesting it. Internet discussion groups have filled with rumors about it...." Why that one and no others?? I have no idea..... I betcha some of the insiders will have more input on this than I....!
  8. How did the Mosaic compare to the non-legit "Jimmy Giuffre/jim Hall Trio - Complete Studio Recordings (4 Cd Box Set)"? http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record.php?record_id=5206 I decided to pick up a copy of this as I the Mosaic is LONG OOP and I really like Jim Hall... Any thoughts?
  9. It's KIND of a box set... Set 3 of the (Download ONLY) Brad Mehldau Trio Live from Nonesuch..... Very good for those of you didn't get it... I only wish they made it a physical CD set....
  10. I respectfully disagree.... For example... does it help me knowing that Miles beat up Cicely Tyson... (yea a little).. Does it change whether or not I enjoy him? No but it does add context..... Seconded.
  11. You're kinda in the ballpark with what I mean...
  12. From everything I know about him... that his on-stage persona actually did drive some of what he did.... (I'm not explaining it well.... ) What's Armstrong's "smiling, grinning persona" got to do with his music?
  13. I'm having a hard time with this one... I have tried but I have NEVER been able to get into Armstrong.... I can't get past the smiling, grinning persona... (bugs me  ) I know - I should... I might eventually cave on this one... but right now.... :beee:
  14. yea he plays guitar and bari sax @ the same time... Kinda like a new version of Rashaan Roland Mulligan.... A merger of two sets?
  15. it really is a good set... I feel bad for those of you who waited and now have to make that painful decision.... <_<
  16. Pendulum Disc 2... Starting off a little better than Disc 1.. IMHO
  17. A couple of years ago when I saw him with McCoy Tyner... he was extremely unimpressive... Grinned the whole time as he was thinking he was awesome... His solos were quite underwhelming.... Now that cat I just saw McCoy with this weekend (Eric Gravatt) is a very nice drummer... great cymbal work....
  18. Initial thought.... :( I have never liked Al Foster as a drummer... (Doesn't do anything for me... - and he thinks he's great.... :o ) We'll see how the rest of the set proceeds....
  19. Pendulum Select Disc 1... not sure what to expect but kinda hard to turn down a live village vanguard set!~!!
  20. Disc 7... I really enjoyed it... minus the awful announcing/interviewing by Steve Allen... You couple that with his nonsense introducing Miles Davis on the Prestige set... YUCK! I know he was a nice guy, funny and important bringing jazz to the public (during that era)... but blah....
  21. So what are you guys thinking about this one, now that it's in our hot little hands....? As someone who had never heard Zeitlin before... this stuff is wonderful!!!! I'm thrilled. :excited:
  22. I am REALLY enjoying this set... !!! To those who haven't .... take the plunge..... :tup :tup
  23. Zeitlin Select... Disc 1... off to a very pleasant start... as I didn't have anything by him.... this looks promising.... onto Disc 2
  24. that sounds right... and from what I remember it went pretty fast.....
