  1. Bing just arrived on my doorstep... And he will be singing to me shortly...
  2. Finally up to Disc 6.. Overall... okay not great... Very uneven... I didn't expect as many vocals....
  3. Onto Disc 3... A little more what I expected... Woody Herman Capitol Recordings... Disc 2... So far... Could be that I'm just sick....
  4. I thought the packaging (and music) was great.. I didn't have any problems with the CD's... Ella's goofing around on about 3 or 4 songs but otherwise I highly recommend it...! Yes it's from the same gig but there's no duplication between the individual CD and the new boxed set....
  5. do we know of a US distributor?
  6. out on storyville... http://www.storyvillerecords.com/default.a...mp;state_2838=2 I have yet to find a stateside distributor... What do the masses think???
  7. Disc 1 Complete HRS Sessions...
  8. Disc 2 of 4.... :excited: Even though I haven't finished this set... I'm highly recommending it.. Ella in a quartet live.. still in her prime...
  9. No F***king way... What's the Clifford and Cole about? Where'd you get the info? Previously unreleased material???? :excited: :excited: The packaging impressed me quite a bit as well. On the downside, the set is sized like a book and will have to be stored with the hardcovers instead of the cd boxed sets. Upcoming sets from Hip-o-Select: Clifford Brown Nat King Cole "Tribute to Thelonious"
  10. Disc 1 of 4 - Ella Twelve Nights in Hollywood... I LOVE the packaging!!! Music is pretty damn good too...
  11. But the strike was over 3 days ago.....
  12. got my copy a few weeks ago.. but its in the listening queue..... another thanks to Ron!!!
  13. I've been thinking about that Chu Berry set... I know I've said this before but my one hesitation is that the sound samples on the website appear very quiet to me... For those of you who have the set... How does the sound compare to other/the best sounding Mosaics??? (As a comparison point to me - One of the best sounding Mosaics is the Tal Farlow set..?
  14. not her best.. Her first few CD's are the best... Sorry to say it but when Tommy LiPuma got a hold of her... they tried to make her into a diva.. She sounds fine but lost her essence when that happened IMHO!!!
  15. You lucky dog!! I ordered all 3 and have to wait 2 more weeks!!!! How's the packaging??
  16. Billie singing I Cover the Waterfront from The Complete JATP Disc 7... There was truly ONLY ONE Billie...!!!
  17. Digital Version of my boy @ the Village Vanguard - Disc 2
  18. New record... Highly recommended...!!! Roy does a little singing, A few tracks from Roberta Gambarini... I like Roy in general... ( minus the RH Factor stuff...) but this is a very nice surprising CD... :excited: Guess great minds think alike.... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/24/arts/mus...i-002.html?_r=2
  19. Anita O'Day in the Car... Discs 4-6.. I swear I love this set.... This set gets more airplay than any of my other Mosaics....
  20. And you guys wanna jump on my case....
  21. and you know what the beauty of being an individual is....  I get to CHOOSE who I like, who I don't and Why.... So there.... :beee: :beee:
  22. I know how important he is.. It is somewhat superficial... but I REALLY can't get past his presentation.. As an African-American the whole smilin'/grinnin' stuff.. always has bothered me... I KNOW why he did it.. .and I KNOW it didn't hide the amount of pain he had to endure.. but I can't help contrast him with Jack Johnson or even Jackie Robinson (who's later politics were awful IMHO) .... It's a visercal, emotional.... gut reaction.. It just REALLY limits my ability to appreciate his work and musicianship..... Maybe it'll change over time... But I've had the same feeling about him for decades.... Yeah, me too. Window's Media Player tells me "The channel does not support the stream format" when I open the URL. I'm using an older iMac running Tiger. Something's different with the new music samples. Thanks for the reply, jazzbo, but I even tried installing a browser plugin from Microsoft called Flip4Mac, but when I click on the sample link, it tries to load the page but never completes. Works for the Louis Armstrong ones though. I"m using Safari, it just opens up in a new Safari window and plays. No problem at all. To thumbsdown angrily the Armstrong is just whacko wearing my shoes. Some of the finest jazz made. Bing is great too, but the Armstrong will be around for a long time and I hope you listen to some single discs or so and finally order it. One of their best sets ever. Wynton would want you to.
  23. Okay DAMNIT I Caved!!!! I'm very intrigued by this set... I'm still NOT giving in on the Armstrong... :tdown Truer words have never been spoken.
  24. okay... I found this clip.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFzuGvhvwL4 I gotta say I'm warming up to the set... If you would have told me 5 years ago I would have considered buying 8 hours of Bing Crosby.. I would have told you that you were
