  1. FYI... My Herman Set arrived today.... :tup
  2. It was a bit harsh.... particularly... the "Ms. Pepper lobbies hard for the ’70s as his prime period, when he had finally made it through jail, drugs and rehab, and found a synthesis of his past styles." I LOVE his 70's stuff... I don't think I need anyone to lobby me on that... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/26/arts/music/26play.html Keep up the wonderful work Laurie... I look forward to the next (hopefully 2CD) set...!
  3. Yea. and you know HOW many people would beat down their door for the Cole??? I'm in first in line...
  4. Disc 3 (and probably 4:) of Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Studio Sessions... Haven't listened to this in a long time...
  5. Disc 3 of From Johnny Griffin with Love...
  6. Hi Laurie... I know you just got done with this mammoth task... but I'm wondering... When do you think Vol. 5 will be out? And will it be another 2CD live set?? thanks for everything you are doing... You've inspired me to add to my Art collection!!!
  7. Good man.... :tup I had one of the CD's before.. but the price was GOOD for two other live sessions + a DVD.. I was reading the liner notes and it's a nice little box.... Unfortunately I suspect it may one of the only Griffin sets we'll get... Mine is still in the mail. I think more people would be into it if they didn't already have quite a bit of the material. Right now I'm grooving to the Canadian Universal Oscar Peterson set.
  8. Just got my shipping notice on the Herman....
  9. Disc 1 of From Johnny Griffin with Love... (the new box from Storyville that no one but me seems to be interested in..... ) I'm enjoying it...
  10. When I called them - they said they were waiting to get the sets from their distributor... They thought the sets would go out Friday... :(hopefully)...
  11. Wow.. 50 Herman sets gone in a few hours! That's impressive... Glad I got mine.. I was told it was shipping on Friday... I don't know if I'll like it.. but I've let one too many go by that I waffled about... Very happy I got a second chance... :excited:
  12. I think I might have gotten one of the last Hermans!!
  13. Damn that was fast!!! I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get a shipping notice soon.... I would mildly recommend the Parlan set for those of you interested...
  14. trying to grab the Herman also... Fingers crossed
  15. thank you doing all of this Laurie.. It takes someone with integrity and passion to keep this stuff alive and still coming out.. Even though I did have part of Disc 1 before (e.g., Mosaic Select) I am very happy to have the rest... Discs 2 and 3 (particularly the live songs) are killer material.. )) Personally I really seem like the late 70s Art.... I've got all 4 and I look forward to the next one... thank you.
  16. Discs 1 through 3... of the new Art History Project... Disc 3 the best of the bunch!!!!!!!
  17. Finally got my copy yesterday... as much as I'm enjoying it... please note that there is some duplication between Disc 1 and the Mosaic Select... Its' only about 5 or 6 tunes as I can tell... Liner notes say that most of Discs 2 and 3 are previously unreleased... Not a complaint... just an FYI....
  18. the only thing I was ever able to find was one of those Proper boxes???? thanks
  19. I assume some of this stuff has been released before... Is any of this on rhapsody.com so I can get a listen before I decide??? thanks
  20. you must have ordered it immediately... as I waited two days and it was already out of stock... I did get an email that they got more copies and shipped mine yesterday. Hopefully I'll get mine on Monday... I didn't like the cover... But how's the liner notes????
  21. what's the scoop on this???? http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record.php?record_id=4781 One of the interesting claims.... is "All tracks previously unissued on any format." Is that true? Does anyone have this?
  22. That's very helpful... My dilemma is simple.. I don't have either... and the Columbia sessions are a bit cheaper.... Hmmm.... What do you think? Yes, there is a good amount of duplication. Disc 1: 1-10 is on the Mosaic box, as is Disc 2: 11-21 and Disc 3: 1-2 The sound on the Columbia box is also excellent. I haven't compared them closely, but have no complaints about the sound on either of them. The boxes represent very different concepts, however. The Columbia box gives a general overview of the Basie era on Columbia (1936, 1938-1950) through selected recordings. The Mosaic box presents all of the known Columbia recordings of Basie and Lester Young (plus a session without Basie). If you have the Columbia box and are salivating for more Basie & Pres, then get the Mosaic. If not, then don't.
  23. I have to say... (other than the fact that I've been on a bit of spending spree.... ) I finally caved and bought this from the jpc.de website.... http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/SESSIONID/266b45f5...581#produktinfo I will say this.. to get this set... without the eloborate packaging for less than 1/3rd the regular price is amazing! With overseas shipping it cost me about $65.... Can't wait to check this out... I would have to recommend it, if you didn't cough up the full price and want to get it before it goes OOP.. :excited:
  24. Wow... I assume the Mosaic has better sound??? Yes, there is a good amount of duplication. Disc 1: 1-10 is on the Mosaic box, as is Disc 2: 11-21 and Disc 3: 1-2
  25. Is there any duplication between the Mosaic Young-Basie and this set??? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C9JD...;pf_rd_i=507846 thanks!
