  1. I have to disagree.... as someone who adores the Anita O'Day set... the Christy/Lee sounds way different..... :beee: I've got too much of the Columbia on vinyl to bother with that set but I'm intrigued by the Lee/Christy set. I'd never listened to the samples until now and I'm impressed. I've grown to love the Anita O'Day set and this doesn't sound a million miles away from that, tempted........ which usually leads to .......£££. However, I need self control having got Monk's Black Lion/Vogue set on eBay yesterday.........and I still need the Braxton and also want the forth coming Louis set.......choices.....
  2. The Farlow is far superior to the Smith... (I have both and I agree with about the Smith...) I think I'm one of the few who has not enjoyed the Columbia sessions... The Lee/Christy has intrigued me... but I think I'm gonna pass....
  3. I would have to concur... They have been OFF the charts when it comes to customer service.... :excl: Now if it had happened with Amazon.com or target.com or something like that... I'd keep it... but given that it's Mosaic... call them... that's my 2 cents...
  4. a few brief cuts of Anita O'Day... Disc 6... How can this set NOT remind you of Glenn Close (aka Fatal Attraction) or Kathleen Turner (Body Heat)??? :excited:  Who's with me????
  5. Hate to be the obnoxious grammarian... but that's a double negative.....
  6. Mine came in the same shipment with the Zeitlin......
  7. Disc 1 - Coltrane the Classic Quartet the (Almost ) Complete Impulse Studio Sessions.. For those of you who haven't gotten it (or the original records..) I got this brand new set (normally $100) for $40 over at tower.com :excited: A F***ing steal!!!! It's now up to a whopping $45..... http://www.tower.com/classic-quartet-compl.../wapi/106613921
  8. warning of the Bechet Select... A LOT of alernate takes...!!!!! So many I had to send it back..... :beee:
  9. my external hard drive which has EVERYTHING burned to digital files.... and then probably the Elvin Jones & Anita O'Day at the same time...
  10. So since all you guys have connections... What IS coming up next??? I hope you're kidding ... I wish I were! Talked to Wenzel this morning. Busy man, also had contact with him today
  11. Guess what arrived my doorstep today from Stamford CT? :excited: :excited:
  12. Toshiko Akiyoshi - Disc 1... Just Gorgeous! Moved onto Disc 2... Swinging!! (I don't understand how this stuff stayed in the can for so long...?) Finally Disc 3... This is really great StuFF :excited: \ Highly recommended for those who haven't jumped on board yet...!
  13. Mulligan Concert Jazz Band Disc 2.... Don't hear you guys talking much about this one.... :(
  14. not sure where you're seeing that... here's what I see... http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Village-Van...7486&sr=1-1
  15. Apparently this 3cd compilation came out in 2007.. http://www.amazon.com/Very-Best-Nancy-Wils...2558&sr=1-1 It seems like Cuscuna (et. al.,) decided the best way to deal with Nancy Wilson's Capitol recordings was to repackage them as compilations. Around 2005-6 several others came out including the 2cd. "Great American Songbook," and the single CDs "Guess Who I Saw Today - Sings Songs of Lost Love" and "Save Your Love for Me: Nancy Wilson Sings the Great Blues Ballads." My guess is that the powers that be... decided that it made more sense to do this than to do a Mosaic Select or full set on her. My questions are these.. Is there any duplication between those Cd's (mentioned above) and the 3cd box set??? I've got the American Songbook and Guess Who I Saw Today (along with Hollywood My Way and Broadway My Way).. but I don't want to buy the same thing twice..... My other question is this... if I do get the "Very Best" 3cd set? Along with the others... How much of her Capitol material does this cover??? I think she's a wonderfully underestimated singer... and looks like these are good bets to get...
  16. cool... thanks guys... i may refrain....
  17. Even though you guys didn't directly answer my question... this has me thinking  If anyone (other than me) has the Hill CD - Live at Montreux... How does that compare to the Solo Select?? I believe they were recorded around the same time... 1975 v. 1978... Well put. It's pretty much how I feel about the Hill solo set. Ever since I bought it I've been thinking of selling it. It just doesn't grab me as much as Hill's earlier small-group sessions; some (and at times much) of the tension is lacking.
  18. Got a question for you guys... I had the Andrew Hill Solo Select a while back... I only gave it a couple of spins, couldn't get into and uncharacteristically sent it back to Mosaic... Since then - I gave the Live at Montreux Solo CD a few more spins and am really liking it... So for those of you who purchased it... should I use this sale as a opportunity to correct my mistake????
  19. Is there anything on this box, not available on individual cds??? (As far as I can tell this box is long OOP....)
  20. good reason to cough up a few bucks for the Wein and Jones Singles...
  21. Art Pepper Select Disc 2.. digital... as I procrastinate from again shoveling the driveway...
