  1. To my ears and on my system some tracks of the Columbia set sound better, but overall the JSP set gets my vote; the Columbia is a bit too harsh to my taste.
  2. Description of Blue Train on the Blue Note site. CDUniverse is selling it for $12.59 plus shipping.
  3. Yes, as a JRVG, TOCJ-9228:

  5. Didn't have the vinyl, so I'm not missing anything. This 4CD-set is pretty amazing.
  6. June 2: Matthew Shipp - Strata - hatOLOGY; great stuff!
  7. P.S. I'm still not sure about Sweet Honey Bee - you know what I mean. I'll probably keep it, though
  8. Good luck and all the best, Daniel! I'm looking forward to seeing you here again in a few months' time.
  9. June 1: Marilyn Crispell - Nothing Ever Was, Anyway. Music of Annette Peacock - 2CD, ECM; Late's earlier post inspired me. Schubert - Piano Sonata in C Minor, D958 - Murray Perahia - 2CD, Sony; this great set also contains the Sonata in A Major, D959, and the Sonata in B-flat Major, D960. Recommended!
  10. I don't like Annette Peacock's vocalising on Marilyn Crispell's otherwise brilliant Nothing Ever Was, Anyway. Music of Annette Peacock; I always skip that track. I agree with you re Irene Aëbi's singing, though.
  11. It's Bennie Green. Benny Green is someone else.
  12. Fluid Motion with Sam Rivers - Fluid Motion - isospin labs; it's the first time I played this disc, and to be honest I'm not impressed... Charles Gayle - Testaments - Knitting Factory Works Marion Brown - Three for Shepp - Victor Japan, 20-bit K2 Steve Lacy - Roswell Rudd - School Days - hatOLOGY
  13. Are you saying that wasn't you??
  14. I second that.
  15. DMG probably imported these CDs themselves.
  16. Confirmed - John R.T. Davies has done another remarkable job.
  17. Randy, AAJ is Mike Ricci's board and in my opinion he can do what he likes with it, whether you and I agree / like it or not.
  18. You're absolutely right; I included it for the very reason you mentioned.
  19. ...And don't forget these albums: Joe Henderson - Our Thing - Blue Note recorded on September 9, 1963, with: Kenny Dorham - trumpet Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone Andrew Hill - piano Eddie Khan - bass Pete La Roca - drums Joe Henderson - In 'n Out - Blue Note recorded on April 10, 1964, with: Kenny Dorham - trumpet Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone McCoy Tyner - piano Richard Davis - bass Elvin Jones - drums Joe Henderson - Mode for Joe - Blue Note recorded on January 27, 1966, with: Lee Morgan - trumpet Curtis Fuller - trombone Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone Bobby Hutcherson - vibraphone Cedar Walton - piano Ron Carter - bass Joe Chambers - drums
  20. Three of my favorite albums with Joe Henderson: Bobby Hutcherson - Stick Up! - Blue Note recorded on July 14, 1966, with: Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone Bobby Hutcherson - vibraphone McCoy Tyner - piano Herbie Lewis - bass Billy Higgins - drums Andrew Hill - Black Fire - Blue Note recorded on November 8, 1963, with: Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone Andrew Hill - piano Richard Davis - bass Roy Haynes - drums Andrew Hill - Point of Departure - Blue Note recorded on March 31, 1964, with: Kenny Dorham - trumpet Eric Dolphy - alto saxophone, flute, bass clarinet Joe Henderson - tenor saxophone Andrew Hill - piano Richard Davis - bass Anthony Williams - drums
  21. Hmm, quite amateurish, wouldn't you say?
  22. Mny, The Japanese Candids were reissued in November 2001 and November 2002, and some of them are now pretty hard to get. The Victor 20-bit K2 VICJ-2000 series (jewel cases) was released before their VICJ-60000 series (mini-LP sleeves), but many of those discs are still available, i.e. Hiroshi Tanno could still get them for me, at least until recently.
  23. Claude, Just sent you a PM.
  24. Great news, especially the Mulligan and Amy sets! Thanks for posting this, Brad.
