  1. Very sad to hear this. Had a few interesting online conversations with him years ago.
  2. Shrdlu is an ardent opponent of the EU and everything it represents in his eyes; he told me so years ago. Just thought I'd mention it. [edit] Just noticed that his post is gone - no idea if he deleted it or if it was removed by a moderator.
  3. BillF was responding to my reaction to shrdlu´s post; the remark shrdlu made, "irrelevant scare tactic", was and is used regularly by brexiteers in the political debate in the UK that's been going on for more than 3 years now, to counter arguments made by people who want to remain in the EU.
  4. I think politics ("irrelevant scare tactic" is a brexiteer slogan) should be left out of this - it's not allowed on this forum anyway.
  5. Another excellent result for Ajax: after beating Real Madrid in the last 32 they knocked out Juventus in the QF tonight, 3-2 aggregate.
  6. Terrible. One of the great European cathedrals and a centre of medieval polyphony. I'm interested in cathedrals like the Notre Dame purely from a secular perspective, it's part of our history and culture. One doesn't have to be religious to appreciate that.
  7. Totally agreed; well put
  8. Nice to see Ajax beat Real after all those lean years in the Champions League. They have a good but rather unstable team - excellent one week, rubbish the next.

  10. Belated happy birthday and get well soon!
  11. Just heard back from Mosaic why they chose 1963 as a starting point:
  12. Sales-wise you may be right, but, as I've said before, I wasn't really impressed by Hoffman's Blue Note hybrid SACDs, way too laid-back and dull for my taste, they lacked "bite" (for want of a better description); I preferred the AudioWave Blue Note XRCDs that were mastered by Alan Yoshida. Same with the Contemporary remasters Hoffman did for a Japanese outlet whose name I forgot. As for the upcoming Mobley set, I have all the albums on CD and I still think the omission of the 1960-1961 recordings is a mistake (unless they couldn't get them licensed), so I'll pass.
  13. Public-domain labels are not necessarily bootleg labels, there is a difference. EU public-domain labels issue non-licensed recordings that are in the public domain in the European Union; those releases are legit in the EU. Bootleg labels release unauthorized recordings and non-licensed recordings that are not in the public domain.
  14. Both Bear Family and Ace have released lots of post-1963 recordings, and I don't think they belong in your list of public-domain labels.
  15. Ace and Bear Family are indeed unjustly included in the list of public-domain labels in the first post. Their releases are all licensed by the rights holders, and some of Fresh Sound's releases were too.
  16. JSP: unless mastered by John R.T. Davies, Ted Kendall or Chris King the releases I've heard sounded awful to my ears, plus the fact that they have often "borrowed" masterings other labels like Bear Family paid for and did the research for. Jasmine: lots of noise reduction on at least some of their releases. Real Gone: there were two labels with that name, Real Gone Music, based in the US, that only reissues licensed material, and the EU public-domain label Real Gone (no "Music" in their name) with cheap, non-licensed reissues taken from existing sources like LPs and CDs. Ace: I've not always been happy with the sound on their (licensed) reissues, it was sometimes too "pumped-up", too loud and harsh. Others like it that way.
  17. "Organissimo board style"… Not my style and one of the reasons I don't post here often anymore. Time for me to take a break (again).
  18. Neither did I. In my view your question could have been handled better in the first place.
  19. That is an excellent Beethoven Piano Sonatas cycle.
  20. Actually, it's 44 CDs. As for the price, I think the decimal point is in the wrong place Delivery time 1-2 months. I've also ordered it - wait and see what happens...
  21. You're absolutely right, it's Cuypers. My mistake, I checked the wrong site.
  22. Y and ij both exist in Dutch, though the Dutch variant ij is more common. By the way, it's Noordijk with double o and Cuijpers with ij, and Van Duynhoven is indeed spelt with a y. And the late footballer's name is Cruijff
