Spelling someone's name correctly is just a matter of respect. Apparently you don't care about that.
-
I think you mean Alan Lankin.
-
Isn't that a British-English expression?

Porter Wagoner in serious condition

Seconded. -
What's odd about it? "Estimated arrival date: 05/11/07 - 07/11/07" The first time I read it I misread this, and assumed it was referring to dates that had already passed. My ignorance. It's day/month/year, the way we do it in Europe

I just got the same e-mail. I have a feeling the order is not going to materialize...

It's €79,99 (about $114) at JPC. It seems Amazon U.K. are the winners with £33.97 or about €48,80 / $69.60

and a few islands too. and most of the Netherlands...

Yeah, if it wasn't for that impossible language! No problem, many if not most Danes speak English.

I'd love to hear/read your story too, Guy.

Great story, Chris. Looking forward to your autobiography. Any idea when it'll come out?

The only thing you'd be saving on if you'd buy both would be shipping, at least compared to what shipping would be if you'd buy them separately...

Has anyone been able to find or compile a discography for this box set? I hate buying stuff I already have. It's not what you're asking for, but the Storyville site brownie linked to has a description and a tracklisting.

That is so cool! One of my biggest jazz-releted regrets is never seeing Mingus in person. I saw Mingus in person in the mid-1970s, when he was touring Europe with Jack Walrath, George Adams, Don Pullen and Dannie Richmond. Impressive. Around this time his Atlantic albums Changes One and Changes Two were released.

When I ordered a few more sets an hour or so ago I got a note from Mosaic that they were pretty busy (they're working today).

A Sure Thing is an album with recordings in larger settings, ranging from a quintet to a nonet. It's been a while since I last listened to it, but it's quite good.

Blues on My Mind is a compilation of his Riverside albums. You'd better get the individual Riversides.

Today's your last chance...

I wonder if these Mosaic sales will result in one or two sets ending up on their Running Low or even Last Chance lists...

Sorry to throw cold water on your suggestion, but if Mosaic's current offerings are selling slowly, I can't imagine that the ones you suggest will exactly fly off the shelves. I can understand Mosaic's caution. I agree. I don't think the avant-garde etc. will sell any better than the "bourgeois" stuff, on the contrary. Maybe, maybe not. You're probably right. All I know is that the catalog is looking awfully stale these days, from my perspective, and I've bought more than 20 of their sets, counting Selects and boxes. They keep offering these sales and I keep looking at what's available and thinking, "Nah, I'll pass." I'd like it if they came out with something that would surprise me a little bit, maybe target a different audience, maybe bring in some new customers, even. I think that's what Mosaic Contemporary is all about. Not necessarily YOUR type of music - but an attempt to bring in new customers. I've thought Mosaic Contemporary was a mistake for a while (well, since they announced it, actually). People who might possibly like that kind of music surely aren't going to be attracted to Mosaic by the availability of a few things when there is so much that's as good (from that point of view) available anyway, at lower prices. It's not generally my kind of music, but I think Face's idea isn't bad. MG I doubt they'd recoup the investment needed for the licensing, research, mastering, etc. of an avant-garde set or something similar.

I just ordered a set and everything went smoothly

It should be noted that these titles are being issued on a type of disc that is being called an "SHM-CD". Supposedly, the plastic used for the CD is a special, low-loss plastic like the plastic used for LCD displays. The claim is that this material will allow the laser to track better and cause less jitter. Sounds far-fetched to me, but some people may want to give one a try. Thanks for the info, Kevin. I'll pass, I've had enough "sonic upgrades"

Thanks for clearing that. I have the 1201 (or is it 2101? whaterver, it's that DA Music/Black Lion successor label) version of "Reaching Out", with all the bonus tracks, but I haven't got it with me... seems "Gettin' into Somethin'" I don't have. I have one more though, that's been released under several others' name, I think. Mine is under Flanagan's and on Prevue and OMITS the bonus track that were part of another reissue (I think on Black Lion under KD's name). Anyway, Frank Haynes is there, too, and doing great! Is "Gettin' into Somethin'" available? If not, Lonehill might be my way of choice - though maybe not, as I always enjoyed Sony/Legacy reissues a lot soundwise, and I'm sure these will sound good, too! (Koch even though they had that HD stuff going on, always kind of left me indifferent, but then I own only five or six Koch CDs.) Gettin' into Somethin' is only available on the Lonehill 2CD-set. It was available on LP a while ago, but as far as I know that's now OOP.
