Tommy Turrentine (4/22/1928-5/13/1997) was 69 when he died, Hillyer (3/25/1940-7/1/1985) 45.

He recorded one session as a leader for Time, Tommy Turrentine. You can also hear him as a sideman on Horace Parlan's Blue Note dates Speakin' My Piece and On the Spur of the Moment, which also feature his brother Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone.

Those are heavily no-noised and sound dead as a dodo. The Masters of Jazz CDs, on the other hand, are very alive. I recently managed to get five of them.

The Soft Swing was released on CD in Japan in 1999, Verve POCJ-2721. You're right though, it was never issued on CD in the United States. Great album

oops , this one of the few CA releases I loath, boring and dull, give me Clark Terry any day.......no seriously this is not one of Julian's better releases, those were all long time behind him in 1962. Live in San Francisco at the Jazz workshop- now that's a different story.................. I fully agree with your assessment.
