  1. It's the same with DCC, so there's no point using MFSL exclusively as a marketing tool.
  2. Many of the so-called MFSL CDs are indeed DCC, not MFSL. Like Claude said above, they're totally different labels.
  3. Amen. Yazoo's liner notes generally missed the mark and weren't especially informative, but then, that's a characteristic that dates back to their earliest vinyl days in the 1960s. OTOH, Yazoo's sound mastering was the model for how it should be done. They eschewed all the no-noise/sonic cleaning nonsense that removed half the music in favor of something that sounded "clean" by today's standards....but the Yazoo enthusiast gets to hear notes and voices that are lost on other labels' efforts. I will miss them immensely if their retirement from the blues biz is true. Hear hear!
  4. The Rijksmuseum is only partially open (see their website).
  5. My thoughts exactly.
  6. That's a link to the same Blindman's Blues Forum thread I posted above (post #8).
  7. Correct. I've read it too, on various websites: Steve Hoffman Forum (see post #12 and following posts) Blindman's Blues Forum
  8. The sad thing is that things like that really did happen at the end of World War II. How cynical can one get...
  9. Yep.
  10. I've seen that one quite often, though not recently. I sold mine when I got the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh Mosaic set. Atlantic Japan should also reissue Worthwhile Konitz on CD, which was released only on Japanese vinyl way back in the 1970s. It's included in the Mosaic set.
  11. I've only picked up a couple of discs that I didn't already have on CD: George Wallington - The Prestidigitator Conte Candoli & Lou Levy - West Coast Wailers The music's great, and first impressions are that the sound is OK (I've only listened to them once). I'm not going to get any "sonic upgrades" of stuff I already have on older Atlantic CDs and Rhino/Atlantic CD box sets. (edited to correct a stupid error...)
  12. You're right, I was talking about Document (singular). Don't know anything about Documents (plural).
  13. Ooo - that looks good. Amazon says it doesn't have everything, but I've found a track list and will compare. Thanks very much. MG I have that one. The sound SUCKS! Beware. Just as I thought. The Document CDs that I've heard all suck sound-wise compared to other CDs with the same stuff.
  14. I have the 1987 CD and am happy with it.
  15. Ooo - that looks good. Amazon says it doesn't have everything, but I've found a track list and will compare. Thanks very much. MG Where is that track list? Never mind. I found it on the German Amazon site. In my experience the sound quality on Document releases is often mediocre at best. If this is a Document box I hope for all buyers the sound is better than usual, otherwise I think you'd be better off with the relatively good-sounding Hep CDs.
  16. The 1987 pressing was Japanese as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this reissue was 24-bit remastered by Universal, like most, if not all of their reissues in recent years.

  18. The Masters of Jazz CDs are long gone, and many of them are hard to find.
  19. Yep, the Hep CDs (scroll down) are the way to go. They were mastered by the late John R.T. Davies.
  20. Don't bother. There now exists a far superior alternative: Seconded!
  21. Who mastered the Masters of Jazz series and the current Frémaux CDs?
  22. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me there are 40 sets left.
  23. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me Ted Kendall did the sound restoration.
  24. Reason for me to keep both that one and the JSP.
  25. I have both boxes, but it's the JSP box for me. It was mastered by the late John R.T. Davies, and I like the sound on that one much better than on the Sony box, which, to my ears, is rather harsh-sounding.
