Here's the Free Elephant site (in English)
  2. The McLaughlin is 24-bit remastered. Check this Amazon Japan page out - scroll down and you'll see the English description. I'm pretty sure Hiroshi Tanno will be able to get it; no guarantees, though.
  3. Still no news? Over on JC the only (ominous) news is, that shrugs is no longer a registered eBay member.
  4. They usually are. There are hardly any recent Japanese Universal series that are not 24-bit.

Has anyone heard this Kowald CD? Opinions?

Nothing. I don't find anything "wrong" with his playing. That being said, he is definitely not to everyone's taste. You're absolutely right about that. I don't care for Mateen's playing; I have Sunny Murray's We Are Not at the Opera with Mateen (Eremite MTE014) and don't like it, and it seems I'm not alone: I've been trying to sell that one for ages and no one seems to be interested...
  7. Same here.
  8. Grab it while you can!
  9. What don't you like about it?
  10. According to my Black Lion reissue Tonite's Music Today of this Storyville material these tunes were recorded in NYC in February 1956. Discographer/board member Michael Fitzgerald might have the exact/correct info.
  11. Not seeing anything with your link, Mr. K. You wouldn't be lying to us, would you? The auctions all ended early with "Buy it now." Yep!
  12. Thanks! Those are great albums and I hope we've inspired a purchase or two.
  13. Another vote for the late 1950s/1960s Contemporary albums: Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section (1957), Art Pepper + Eleven: Modern Jazz Classics (1959), Gettin' Together! (1960), Intensity (1960) and Smack Up (1960), the Japanese release Art Pepper with Warne Marsh (1956), plus the Vanguard set - I agree with couw's assessment of Pepper's playing during the Vanguard dates.
  14. AB, You've been listing several of my favorite albums these last few days, such as these two: I wonder what's next...
  15. How can you not be sure that the New Orleans band count as jazz? What they play was jazz long before most of what you listen to today was even thought of. Exactly my point. BM, what made you think that it might not be jazz?
  16. Indeed. One of the all-time greats.

  18. Ohhhh yeah. The Mosaic sound quality with Malcom Addey at the helm is the best. Ron McMaster does excellent work, with the sound, as well. You may read about my Mosaic/Addey orgasm via my three posts starting here. Mosaic and Malcom Addey. While I wholeheartedly second your Malcolm Addey recommendation, I respectfully disagree with your statement re Ron McMaster remasterings. A case in point (at least to my ears) is the Lou Donaldson set, which sounds terribly loud/compressed on my system, though the kind people at Mosaic assured me it isn't. It makes my ears bleed so to speak... Sorry to spoil the fun
  19. You're lucky, I decided not to bid on the Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions set at the last minute - it might have cost you a bit more if I had...
  20. My favorite Booker T track is "Behave Yourself" from the Green Onions album.
  21. As far as I know Rita Coolidge was married to singer/songwriter/actor Kris Kristofferson.
  22. It's a bit loud, but not that bright, at least not to my ears. I don't have a problem with it, and I also have a solid-state system.
  23. What was the problem with the Davis Cup TOCJ24? Too loud/compressed, too bright, or?
