I've never seen an SACD of Stanley Turrentine's Time album. I do, however, have the SACD of Tommy Turrentine's Time album. Aren't you mistaking one for the other?

The late Peter Kowald was one of THE amazing bassists in the freer styles of jazz. If only he had kept his mouth shut - or his voice out of the equation if you like - when playing...

I thought there was a thread about this album, but it didn't turn up in a search, so here goes: the street date of the CD reissue is September 21, and it can be pre-ordered from CDUniverse for $16.79. CDU also has sound samples. The sound is pretty bad, but there's lots of beautiful playing by Warne (as usual).

Thanks for the research, John. The recent Ace CD Howling Wolf Sings the Blues (ACE CDCHM 1013) is actually a reissue of the older Ace CD Howling Wolf Rides Again (Ace CDCHD 333). The reissue probably has better sound since (like you said) the original acetates were used.

That's a bit steep, isn't it: the Mosaic price is $119 or €97.50 for each set. I guess the much lower shipping cost within Europe makes up for it, though. it ships for free within Germany/Austria/Switzerland. No customs either (money nor hassle), so I guess that makes it an even deal. Yeah, but you don't get individually numbered sets, and those are worth a few extra bucks! B-)

I'm listening to this disc right now. I'm not sure I like what I'm hearing, it's Mahanthappa's tone that's increasingly bothering me; it has a kind of "nagging" or "whining" quality that doesn't appeal to me. I have to revise my earlier comment: once I got used to Mahanthappa's tone I liked this disc a lot better. I will have to play it again soon, though. Now listening to: again with Mahanthappa.
