Has anyone ever ordered directly from Justin Time Records? I placed an order in August and, apart from an order confirmation e-mail, I never heard or received anything from them.

Yep, no index. I'm guessing it would have gotten too fat if they had included it, but I think it's a major omission and a wrong decision.

There must be more posters who are regarding McMaster remasters as a lesser "evil" than RVGs...

I guess I'm being too cautious.

The current owners might see it as defamation. Oh, I don't know, maybe I'm being too negative and concerned; perhaps some of the American lawyer posters here can shed some light on this.

Has anyone reviewed this Conrad Bauer/Peter Kowald/Günter Sommer album on Intakt here yet (I did a search, but it didn't turn up): . The title is Between Heaven And Earth. If not, opinions?

Several of the original albums have been reissued as mini-LP sleeve CDs by Universal Japan over the last couple of years, but the Mosaic has the early tracks (including the extra tracks that don't appear on the Japanese reissues) in the order they were recorded, i.e. in "recording chronology", which makes it more listenable for me than - for instance - the original Jazz in 3/4 Time album.

It's nothing compared to certain other forums. In my opinion there's nothing wrong with wanting to hear great music like this in the best possible sound. However, I agree that this is classic music that belongs in every serious jazz collection, and if the box is the easiest way to get it, grab it! It's the music that counts, the sound comes second.

Just curious.... Did you hear this tape hiss(I assume that's what it is) on the CDR? If you could describe the noise a bit more, I'd appreciate it. Have others noticed this on the Mosaic CD set? Not a CDR issue at all. I guess I should clarify myself in that it's not really a "hiss" - tape or otherwise - but that over-all brightnessss to the 'Contours' session on the Mosaic that seems to carry into those lulled passages (and mind you that it's not a glaringly serious issue with the Mosaic set). It still is very hot on the Conn but that session in particular on the Mosaic was almost too crisp in a "domestic RVG kinda way". FWIW I think that the Conn of 'FSS' is just a freeking oustanding improvement over the Mosaic. This one seems slighter than that but still better to me. Simply put: the Mosaic session sounds like a new RVG / the Conn sounds good. I guess I only posted as when I first read thru the thread I was looking for the worst in this newest re-issue. Then again if I'm up against wolff and Hans I should with all due respect check my ears at the door. If it's brightness / aggressive highs you're referring to, I fully agree. Many remastering engineers tend to bump up the higher frequencies (and sometimes the lower frequencies too; result: a "happy smiley" EQ) and they're often also using noise-reducing devices, and I hate it when they're doing that.

I haven't heard the Rivers Conn yet, but I'm not so sure removing the noise is such a good idea. In my experience removing tape hiss / noise often does more damage than good.

Steve Hoffman posted some info about this on his forum, but I can't find the threads over there at the moment.
