  1. Apparently it's legit ("taken from original source tapes"), so here's a link to Amazon U.K.: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Friends-Neighbors-Ornette-Prince-Street/dp/B00CONC162/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1372423785&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=ornette+coleman+friends+and+neighbours According to Amazon UK the Heron set is on "BGP/Ace," so should be as legit as possible. Ace did reissue these albums, so they are indeed as legit as possible I just remembered I got an e-mail from Ace earlier this week listing these releases. Haven't been feeling too well physically these last few weeks, which is probably why I recently posted all kinds of stupid things, both here and elsewhere. I think I'd better keep quiet for a while.
  2. Part of the description of the Ornette Coleman release on Amazon U.K.: Apparently it's legit ("taken from original source tapes"), so here's a link to Amazon U.K.: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Friends-Neighbors-Ornette-Prince-Street/dp/B00CONC162/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1372423785&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=ornette+coleman+friends+and+neighbours
  3. Sorry to hear this. Played his albums a lot years ago.
  4. How are Blythe's India Navigation albums? Never heard those.
  5. Both were available on CD, in the Mitchell and Rivers Mosaic sets respectively.

    Hank Mobley

Ah, now I understand how "penultimate" is (incorrectly) used on some fora; I always thought people meant "next to last" - from the Latin "paene" or "almost" and "ultimus" or "last". Latin expressions and words are often misused and/or misspelled on English-language boards. A case in point is "ad nauseam", which is regularly misspelled as "ad nauseum". There are other examples. If you don't know what it means or how to spell it, don't use it.
  7. Haven't found one yet...

    Hank Mobley

There are indeed quite a few topics on Mobley here.
  9. Some OOP Mosaics still go for quite a lot, but most do indeed fetch considerably less than a few years ago. If you're looking for the highest prices the best place to sell them is still eBay, but the "golden years" seem to be gone even there. You could try selling them here, but in that case don't expect to get top dollar
  10. That's why I said "only the sets that are marked as such" in my previous post. I had no idea that it wasn't clear enough.
  11. No, only the sets that are marked as such on the page I linked in the first post.
  12. Thanks Chuck, very useful info. Just checked the discography on Mosaic's site again and noticed that only two of the seven discs have his later material. The first five discs contain his Muse dates up to 1977, so it might be an interesting set after all. Looks like I'll also have to check out a few of his earlier albums on other labels than Muse.
  13. Thanks for the advice, guys. I don't know Shaw's albums very well; they were made during a period of time I lost interest in jazz for all kinds of reasons, both personal and otherwise, and I only got a few from his Columbia era when I started listening to jazz again but hardly played them.
  14. I was just listening to the Savoy reissue of one of Shaw's later Muse albums, Imagination, to help me decide whether or not to get the Mosaic. In fact, it's the only post-Columbia Shaw I have and I must admit that I was disappointed (hadn't heard it in years). It's a pretty routine date, very straightforward, with few interesting moments. I didn't re-read this whole thread, but didn't someone (Jim Sangrey?) say Shaw's post-Columbia dates were nice, but not that interesting? If they're like this one, I'm not sure I'll be getting the set. Another problem is the weird mix: Shaw sounds like he's playing at a distance, in a hall (too much reverb), while on the other hand Turre and Drummond sound dry, close-miked. The original 1987 recording and mix were done by RVG, while the reissue was mastered by Gene Paul, whose work I usually don't have problems with. According to the Mosaic site it wasn't remixed for the set, so I assume the set has the same RVG mix. Any opinions?

    Sam Most : RIP

    Sorry to hear this.
  16. Sorry to hear this. Never really warmed to his playing.
  17. Huggett is not the one I would choose in these pieces. I much prefer the performances on both historic and more modern instruments by Rachel Podger (Channel Classics), Viktoria Mullova (Onyx), Alina Ibragimova (Hyperion), Amandine Beyer (Zig-Zag Territoires), Christine Busch (Phi), Liza Ferschtman (Challenge Classics), Hélène Schmitt (Alpha) and especially Isabelle Faust (Harmonia Mundi France).
  18. Loved it, just ordered the CD. Thanks! Link please? I'm too dumb to find it ... all I see is this one: Or is that l there is? The other result amazon's super-smart tags give me is Midori Seiler's disc of the three partitas (did she do the sonatas, too?) Yep, that is all there is according to AMG: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/midori-mn0001628166#discography
  19. Fantasy didn't go belly-up, the owners decided to sell it. A subtle difference, but nevertheless a difference
  20. The same item on U.S. eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370829712707?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D370829712707%26_rdc%3D1
  21. You probably used PayPal's non-reclaimable payment option to avoid any PayPal fees for the seller. I never use that option with stores and private sellers.
