  1. No, only the sets that are marked as such on the page I linked in the first post.
  2. Thanks Chuck, very useful info. Just checked the discography on Mosaic's site again and noticed that only two of the seven discs have his later material. The first five discs contain his Muse dates up to 1977, so it might be an interesting set after all. Looks like I'll also have to check out a few of his earlier albums on other labels than Muse.
  3. Thanks for the advice, guys. I don't know Shaw's albums very well; they were made during a period of time I lost interest in jazz for all kinds of reasons, both personal and otherwise, and I only got a few from his Columbia era when I started listening to jazz again but hardly played them.
  4. I was just listening to the Savoy reissue of one of Shaw's later Muse albums, Imagination, to help me decide whether or not to get the Mosaic. In fact, it's the only post-Columbia Shaw I have and I must admit that I was disappointed (hadn't heard it in years). It's a pretty routine date, very straightforward, with few interesting moments. I didn't re-read this whole thread, but didn't someone (Jim Sangrey?) say Shaw's post-Columbia dates were nice, but not that interesting? If they're like this one, I'm not sure I'll be getting the set. Another problem is the weird mix: Shaw sounds like he's playing at a distance, in a hall (too much reverb), while on the other hand Turre and Drummond sound dry, close-miked. The original 1987 recording and mix were done by RVG, while the reissue was mastered by Gene Paul, whose work I usually don't have problems with. According to the Mosaic site it wasn't remixed for the set, so I assume the set has the same RVG mix. Any opinions?

    Sam Most : RIP

    Sorry to hear this.
  6. Sorry to hear this. Never really warmed to his playing.
  7. Huggett is not the one I would choose in these pieces. I much prefer the performances on both historic and more modern instruments by Rachel Podger (Channel Classics), Viktoria Mullova (Onyx), Alina Ibragimova (Hyperion), Amandine Beyer (Zig-Zag Territoires), Christine Busch (Phi), Liza Ferschtman (Challenge Classics), Hélène Schmitt (Alpha) and especially Isabelle Faust (Harmonia Mundi France).
  8. Loved it, just ordered the CD. Thanks! Link please? I'm too dumb to find it ... all I see is this one: Or is that l there is? The other result amazon's super-smart tags give me is Midori Seiler's disc of the three partitas (did she do the sonatas, too?) Yep, that is all there is according to AMG: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/midori-mn0001628166#discography
  9. Fantasy didn't go belly-up, the owners decided to sell it. A subtle difference, but nevertheless a difference
  10. The same item on U.S. eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370829712707?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D370829712707%26_rdc%3D1
  11. You probably used PayPal's non-reclaimable payment option to avoid any PayPal fees for the seller. I never use that option with stores and private sellers.
  12. Well, April 23 + 45 days = June 7; it's now June 8, so why not contact PayPal immediately? It's worth a try.
  13. When you access the transaction itself on your PP account ("payments sent"), you can see there if you still have the possibility to "open a case" against the seller. A claim should be filed within 45 days of the date of the transaction, otherwise you're out of your money. Looks like you've been conned.
  14. The owner says not to contact him and that he won't answer any e-mails. It all sounds very dubious. How did you pay him? If you used PayPal, you should file a claim with them immediately, if it isn't too late already.
  15. Thought someone else would post this, but since that hasn't happened I'm interrupting my break from posting here to support Mosaic: they are offering selected sets at 10% off until June 17, 2013; they're included in this list: http://www.mosaicrecords.com/departments.asp?dept=5
  16. Stopped twice, last time cold turkey in 1987.
  17. Millinder's 1941-1950 material is available on 3 Chronological (sorry Chronogical ) Classics CDs. Very nice stuff but I wonder what the benefit of a small Mosaic box (which they no longer do anyway) covering the same period might be. MG Probably better sound, but that's hypothetical now. Well, I greatly enjoy those recordings on Chronogical Classics. I doubt if anyone would ever have thought of issuing the material in excellent sound. Would enough people be sufficiently interested in Millinder to secure a profit for the company doing to? We're all jazz fans (to some degree) on this board, but I bet there are precious few of us who have these 3 CDs. Fewer than 6, I'd guess. MG Well, Millinder is not to everyone's taste

  19. I have the 1993 Rhino/Atlantic CDs of Changes One and Changes Two. Haven't listened to them in years, but as far as I can remember they're OK sonically. Don't know how they compare to the original LPs. Those Japanese Warner remasters are indeed tiring to listen to; the ones I have won't visit my CD transport very often - and that's an understatement.
  20. Congratulations!
  21. It's now down to $283 with 19 hours to go.
  22. Nope Just you and me, eh Pip? Looks like it.
