  1. Thanks Brownie, but you have to wait for me to learn how to pay you MG Not to worry... there are several ways to have money cross the Channel! Good luck with that if you want to avoid extra cost. I usually use my PayPal account and swallow the fee myself by using the "private" PayPal payment method when sending payment to private persons. One of my U.K. contacts told me sterling → euro bank transfers are hideously expensive.
  2. Vinyl is a material things are made of and doesn't have a plural. In this case it should be "LPs" or "records".
  3. How does this match with this? The Beatles were on Parlophone. MG Part of the deal is that the Beatles' catalogue would stay with EMI and go to Universal as a consequence.
  4. I agree, the Master Takes box has better mastering.
  5. For me it was the other way 'round. When I got the master takes box, I sold the big one; it was too much for me
  6. Great set. Highly recommended.

  10. I am now listening to Lou Donaldson's Midnight Sun (TOCJ-50281) and the sound is OK. Not bright/harsh and not too loud.
  11. It's a 2CD-set: Oliver Nelson - Eric Dolphy: Complete Recordings, an unauthorized release from European public-domain label Essential Jazz Classics. They have no access to original sources like mastertapes; the set is probably taken from (official) Original Jazz Classics and impulse! CDs.
  12. See my post #26. You gave the wrong address; the correct address is www.cdjapan.co.jp - here's the link again: CDJapan.
  13. Importing them directly from CDJapan will undoubtedly be cheaper.
  14. Thanks for posting this, Daniel. That series was a very mixed bag, with some good albums and some (very) poor ones (in my opinion ).
  15. Depending on their condition $200 each for those Commodore LP sets is a steal. They usually go for much more on eBay.
  16. Funny, I've got loads and they don't sound any different to me from other Fantasy stuff. I have one or two that I've also got on other editions... I believe it were the ZYX 20 bit remasters of OJC material in digipaks that could sound very bad. The standard jewel case editions were the same as the US OJC:s, which are mostly quite decent. Yep, those 20-bit OJC remasters in digipaks from ZYX sounded atrocious, without exception. I bought most of the available ones in one go (which is never a good idea, to be honest) many years ago and was appalled when I listened to them. Avoid at all cost. Most of the regular non-20-bit ZYX OJCs in standard jewel cases were indeed OK.
  17. Allen, Could you describe the distortion you're hearing and at how much time into "Weatherbird"?
  18. I'd choose the Quebec/Hardee too. It's one of the rarest Mosaics and usually goes for big bucks on eBay, so in case you don't like it... The Hodes is not to be missed either, though, so if you can afford it, get both.
  19. Because I made a mistake. It happens. It does [couldn't resist my earlier remark ]. To each their own [Very funny, by the way]
  20. Just listened to part of that track. Very commercial and totally not my cup of tea (to put it mildly). [by the way, why do people keep spelling the possessive pronoun "its" with an apostrophe?]
  21. Sorry to hear that. He made a few fine albums.
  22. John Tefteller's Blues Images' special offer: only $19.95 plus shipping.
  23. When ZYX was Fantasy's European licensee they didn't release CD-Rs.
  24. So Richard Nevins decided to revive Yazoo. Interesting. I wonder if there'll be more releases.
  25. Will I have to buy Bessie's complete recordings for the third time? Columbia, Frog and now... Why not? Then you can tell us if Sony newly remastered the set or used the atrocious no-noised masterings from the early 1990s By the way, this set has been discussed recently in at least two other threads, this one and this one.
