LF: booklet to Mosaic 134 Complete Commodore Recordings Vol III
J.A.W. replied to jdw's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Maybe they can provide you with a photocopy. -
Time to revive this old thread Any recent Scriabin piano sonatas recommendations?

Earl Hines Mosaic box scheduled for release in December 2012
J.A.W. replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Mosaic sets with 7 CDs are the most cost-effective ones, but there's no "hard" 7CD limit. For instance, the recent Duke Ellington big-band and Coleman Hawkins sets have 11 and 8 CDs respectively. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Again, as Scott told me only Sony-owned material will be included in the Earl Hines set, so it'll have no Universal-owned stuff. -

Brunswick and Decca sides included ? . I'm guessing yes and no respectively. Only Sony-owned material. No stuff that is owned by Universal. -
Decided to try Heifetz again, even though previous efforts years ago didn't work. Ordered three of his "Living Stereo" hybrid SACDs while they're still available: Brahms/Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev/Sibelius/Glazunov and Beethoven/Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

It seems it's got something to do with the cost of licensing; the optimum seems to be a 7CD-set, I was told sets with fewer CDs cost more per CD and so do sets with more than 7 CDs. Also, licensing stuff from more than one rights owner for one set seems to be very costly.
-
Agreed. That's more or less what I told Scott. Last year I suggested Dave Bailey JazzLine/JazzTime/Epic and Chico Hamilton/Charles Lloyd/Gabor Szabo Reprise/impulse! Selects to them and MC replied they'd love to do those sets, but that licensing and the cost involved would probably be problematic. Well, we'll never see them now... Oh well.

Scott told me the Mingus will be delayed. They just heard that the CDs will not be in as planned on October 30 but a week later.

Scott also told me the Hines set will probably be listed on Mosaic's "Upcoming Releases" page in November. -
Now that, mister, is unforgivable! Now will you please put on one of these and stand in the corner until called back! Don't have anything against those sides - haven't heard them. Couldn't justify getting the Mosaic for those sessions. Just remembered I have all but one of Johnny Lytle's albums - 'Does it again' PJ. MH The LD Mosaic doesn't have any of the Clifford Brown stuff-- that's all on Brownie's Complete BN/PJ Recordings box. The Mosaic is just several late 50s hard bop dates with the usual suspects, most of which never showed up on CD outside Japan. The Lou Donaldson/Clifford Brown material (Art Blakey was the leader, of course) was included in the LP-only Clifford Brown Mosaic (#104) and, as posted above, in the later Clifford Brown Complete Blue Note/Pacific Jazz CD-set.

TBH, the Ozzie Guilen firing doesn't surprise me. After he made that idiot Castro comment, I knew his days were numbered. I've always thought his last name was Guillen If it matters to you, it's actually Guillén So if it matters that much to you, get it all the way right. Otherwise, I'm getting new glasses in a few weeks and never will learn to type good, so proceed accordingly. I was just kidding. But seriously, I think it's a matter of respect to get names right and yes, you're right, I made an error too.

That is definitive, unless Scott was lying to me. No more Selects or Singles. Neither were selling well enough to continue. Yep, that's what Scott also told me. Thanks for the seal of approval You never stop, do you... Sheesh man, relax, it wasn't intended the way you interpreted it; I only posted what Scott told me, that's all. Why? I posted the same thing months ago. I'm afraid it's you who never stops. Look at your post count. What's that got to do with it?? Never mind, it's no use trying to talk with you.

I just got the OK from Scott Wenzel to post here that the Earl Hines box is scheduled for release in December 2012. It will include Sony owned material (OKeh, Columbia, Bluebird, Victor, Signature, Vocalion) from 1928-1945. I've posted a separate thread for this box here.
-
The CDs are only £2 each (about $3.20 or €2.45 at today's exchange rates), but the minimum order is 10 CDs and you can only order 10 or 20 or 30 etc. CDs.
-
I've ordered many times from Allyourmusic (they're also selling on Amazon) and never had a problem. They usually take their time before shipping anything, but they're reliable.

Why all the caps?? No need to shout.

I can't speak for Chuck, of course, but if I remember correctly he once posted that he didn't like Gilels in Beethoven. Anyway, Gilels' unfinished cycle (DG) is one of my favourites, along with the earlier Kempff (mono, DG). Annie Fischer (Hungaroton) is an acquired taste in Beethoven, though I like what she does, and I also like most of Solomon's interpretations (Testament, not EMI); Schnabel (Naxos, not the earlier, heavily no-noised EMI set) is hors concours.

Sad news. Way too young at 62.
