  1. Can't answer that, but I guess the answer would be the Mingus Candids. I had the Japanese Candids but sold them a long time ago when I got the Mosaic, which has much better sound (at least to my ears) than those Japanese CDs. One of the Candids (can't remember which one) had a very weird stereo effect, which the Mosaic doesn't have.
  2. So did Fats Navarro and a bunch of folks from his generation. Very funny. I inadvertently hit the "add reply" button when I was still editing my post - see my corrected post above.
  3. The Mosaic has 26 tracks: Air (5 takes) Number One (2 takes) This Nearly Was Mine (1 take) E.B. (1 take) Lazy Afternoon (1 take) Port of Call (2 takes) Davis (2 takes) O.P. (2 takes) Cell Walk for Celeste (3 takes) I Forgot (1 take) Section C (1 take) Jumpin' Punkins (2 takes) Things Ain't What They Used to Be (2 takes) Cindy's Main Mood (1 take)
  4. Correct. This is one of the public-domain labels that don't have access to original sources such as master tapes. Not for me, but others' mileage may vary.
  5. Seek and Ye Shall Find (how's that for an atheist? ) The "View New Content" link is at the top right-hand corner, right under your name and the search bar. Okay you are referring to "Recent Topics Added." No, I am referring to the top right-hand corner where it says "Forum Rules - PLEASE READ! View New Content" on my screen, just under the search bar and above "Recent Topics Added".

  7. Since I resigned as a moderator I don't visit 13 of the 23 fora anymore and I only rarely visit a few of the others.
  8. Same here.
  9. How do we vote if we are not on Facebook? I was wondering about that too.
  10. Guess you never took a marketing class. My thoughts exactly
  11. I'd be interested. It would make a great Mosaic for sure.
  12. You should get it (IMHO), the material has never sounded this good and the booklet is GREAT. The organ is off putting, I agree, but Lester sounded great on that session. There are outtakes, but they only add (for me), as I love Lester. I would not hesitate getting this if you are: a Count Basie Orchestra fan, a Prez fan, pre-WWI jazz fan. I listen to this set often. Pre-WWI? Whoops Pre-WWII, that's what I get for posting at work. lol. I was just kidding By the way, "pre-WWII" doesn't quite cover it; for Americans "pre-WWII" is pre-1941, of course, but WWII began in Europe in 1939. I'd prefer "pre-bop" (just nitpicking )

  14. I think this topic is (as the thread title says) about "Mosaics That Could Have Been, But Weren't (and were probably better off that way)", not about which Mosaics you would like.
  15. WTF? I hope this set WILL be released and not fade away.... Good thing I have been bingeing on some Analogue Productions Blue Note SACD's and the Nat King Cole SACD's.... But still....I remember the original release date was November now it's June? Well, if it takes this long to get clearance there's nothing they can do, can they. Blame the owners of the recordings, not Mosaic.
  16. The Young/Basie set is now on the "Last Chance"-list.
  17. It seems some remixing has been done. Mark Wilder did the remastering: credits.
  18. That is one fine release, and it was at a very fine price. Why indeed did it disappear so quickly? I'm told it's going at ridiculous prices on ebay. That release showed the majors could beat the bootleggers at their own game...but as it seems to be a one-off, they choose NOT to do it. That was a European release. Sony have their own release policy in the various European countries.
  19. Where do you see your member number? We're glad you are back AB. It used to be in the left-hand column, under the avatar. Jim removed the member numbers years ago.
  20. Found one. Thanks for the replies. And also Straight No Filter. Later issues had the same content as the original LPs, with several sessions scattered over the 3 CDs.
  21. Hi Brad, No, I have the "BN Works" TOCJ and it has a few different tracks from different sessions. I am looking for the first "McMaster" CD reissue from 1989 with the tracks listed in my ad.
  22. I am looking for the late 1980s CD reissue of Hank Mobley's The Turnaround (Blue Note 84186) in excellent or better condition, with these tracks: - Pat 'n Chat - Third Time Around - Hank's Waltz - The Turnaround - Straight Ahead - My Sin The transfers were done by Ron McMaster. My only payment option is PayPal. Please PM me if you're selling a copy or know where I can get one.
  23. Wow, CD issues of Warne's Revelation material would be fantastic! I have the hatOLOGY, but I'd like to have more, much more. I saw Warne live in the Netherlands in the 1970s and I've always loved his recordings from the Atlantics onwards.
  24. I believe we learned that the target size was 7, in economic terms. Correct.
