  1. That's one jam-packed southeastern tour! I don't know how much My Morning Jacket y'all have heard, but they are another great recommedation.
  2. I have a friend whose brother is named Devil Boy 4999. His parents called him Hank.
  3. I made it to the Cezanne exhibit at the National Gallery in April. Or was it March?
  4. No Wolleson or Amendola? Graves? Alvin Fielder? Alvin Fielder. Steve McCall? Cyrille? Bill Stewart. Bob Gullotti! I like your list because it covers a broad range of drummers, stylistically. These guys fit into your list well. If you aren't familiar, check them out in no particular order.
  5. Related, Stephen Flynn will be playing solo at DMG June 4.
  6. I just wanted to say thank you to Bertrand and everyone else here who puts in the time and effort to set the record straight.
  7. "Dear Sir" At least he's a Wayne Shorter fan.
  8. I just pre-ordered after looking at those pics! Maybe a little premature.
  9. John, You DA man. Loves it. Those guys who write letters to penthouse about amputees probably love it too. LON! HA!
  10. Be careful what you wish for.
  11. I just wish I had more money.
  12. I'll weigh in. I've got positive and negative experience with both. They are still computers when it comes right down to it. I'm typing this on a Gateway Tablet right now. Yes, my company has done a fantastic job of guarding it with software that is constantly using up my RAM, but I haven't gotten a virus yet. InDesign crashes here and there, but its my own fault for letting a file get too big before "save as". This is a little hoodoo that I have learned since working with graphics files on the PC. I have wiped an iMac Graphite and an ibook 800mhz down to 0. What a liberating experience. Both of the them run amazingly now, and have for over two years. No issues whatsoever. Partitions have been good to me. I am about to max out the RAM on the ibook and load Ableton Live on the ibook, which will really test the processor. The ibook has been banged around quite a bit too. Good little computer. I like it a lot. I also like the Gateway fine. Sounds funny, but it has been great so far. InDesign and Photoshop, Excel, and (gulp) Lotus Notes are pretty much all that I ever run on this thing. Seems to be fine. Did anyone notice the optical audio output on the new Macbook?
  13. Someone has to turn this into a Monday Michiru thread...
  14. I heard Lyle Lovett doing Gee Baby on the radio today. Yikes.
  15. Ha! Never heard of him. How's he sound? That picture is a kick! You know the purists are polishing their bars right now... they would die if they saw him laying on his vibes.
  16. Thanks Chuck. Great great stuff. A pleasure as always. I'm really enjoying the Jeb Bishop Trio/Quartet session. Impressive musicians that I am only somewhat familiar with. Kessler and Mulvenna are very relaxing. Great tunes. Jeff Parker is a treat. Afternoons. Definitely recommended. Listened to the Dave Rempis/Tim Daisy duet today. Fantastic clean, clean playing from both. Bull Fiddle was a nice listen as well. I know I am going to enjoy lots of Kessler for years to come. What a tone!
  17. These last two albums have been great. I didn't know they had another coming soon. Thanks for the heads up!
  18. onomatopoeia I took a screen grab from Straight, No Chaser. The design started out saying Ping Pong, but I thought Pink Ponk went a little further. Amazing photograph. Monk in a suit playing table tennis.
  19. I was hoping you'd reply Jim! Thanks. I will check out the MXL. Another microphone that I am interested in learning more about is the Shure Beta 5a. Do you have any experience with this? I am looking toward supercardioid because I will need to reduce bleed as much as possible. The MXL almost looks omnidirectional. Do you see this as an issue?
  20. Hello all. I know there is a good amount of knowledge and experience here at org.org on electronics, recording, amplification, etc. I am looking at options for amplifying a Deagan 582 vibraharp. Two options: piezo pickups or microphones. There are pros and cons to each, but I have decided to start my experimentation by going the microphone route. While AMT has developed a three mic product specifically for the amplification of a vibe, I have all but ruled it out as my first step. Instead, I am looking at other supercardiod microphones to achieve similar results. At this stage, I am still budget-concious, which is the main reason I have decided against AMT at the moment. In the end, I am probably going to end up spending as much, or more, on amplification etc. as I did on the instrument itself. In addition to the microphones, there is the mixer, cables, and monitor, along with whatever else I will be running the output through. I am fine with that. I have an ideal that I want to achieve. It will be a long experimental process, but that is what I am looking for! FWIW, I am not interested in applying "guitar effects" to the vibe the way Bill Ware has in the past. I am looking for something a little more subtle. Historically, two microphones are set up above the keyboard on boom stands. One above the low octave, the other above the upper octave. These are balanced through the mixer, obviously, then output to the monitor(s). AMT has added a third microphone. Positioning is up to the player, but it looks like they recommend playing it below the instrument under the middle octave. I am at the first scenario. Two microphones on booms. Any suggestions? Ideas? Thanks!
  21. Two Stolen Moments? Any unissued tracks?
  22. What does that mean? In my case, the usual "Nessa Neatness" is what I refer to as "producer's choice". I guess this time around, it doesn't apply though! I was torn... really looking forward to the package though Chuck. Thanks again.
