  1. I think I am afraid of letting people down and base too many decisions on this fear.
  2. On that note, Charles Bradley No Time For Dreaming. Return of 16 Corners is a funky comp too featuring some Billy Wooten. Just find some live Wooden Glass!
  3. Not sure if this fits the funk that y'all are discussing here, but because The Meters were mentioned, I feel compelled to recommend to you "Street Parade" under Earl King. This music has been repackaged at least once. No matter. This is one amazing album with The Meters as the rhythm section PLUS horn arrangements by Allen Toussaint. 1972. So good.
  4. Chuck Nessa gave me a ride one time, which negates my opinion of Warne Marsh.
  5. Anyone who reads that far into the reviews, then finds this thread in a google search isn't likely to buy the disc. Unless their computer has a sound card, in which case they can listen to the samples and decide for themselves. This discussion is absolutely goofy.
  6. Yes. Sorry.
  7. Just got word that this amazing bassist has passed away. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornell_Dupree Wiki has already updated.
  8. Tom, I think you will like the jazz scene in Richmond, VA. Not far from DC, young, and progressive. Tonight Scott Burton and Scott Clark duo as SCUO, followed by Starlicker (Rob Mazurek, Jason Adasiewicz, John Herndon). Glows In The Dark, Fight The Big Bull, Scott Clark Quartet, Old New Things, UTV, Topknot, Ombak, are other names to catch regularly at The Camel, Commercial Taphouse, or Balliceaux. I also think you would really like trumpet player John D'Earth. Catch him at Miller's in Charlottesville, VA. I think he'd be right up your alley.
  9. Man. I was just in LA. It seemed that pot was practically legal. Everywhere. Like... EVERYWHERE.
  10. Rollins Ayler. I'll be watching this thread.
  11. Happy Birthday Lazaro! \ \\
  12. Is it tomorrow already? Happy Birthday Joe!!! I hope it is a great one.
  13. chewy chew chew's about to get crunchy crunch crunch!
  14. You can lead a fish to water, but you can't make it a horse.
  15. So I don't owe anyone an apology?
  16. That would be funny.
  17. It wasn't the indie rock douchebags. I did buy a Unity tshirt from ropeadope years ago. Girls small. Good thing I had a daughter.
  18. Damn. Looks like I made a terrible mistake. I feel like an idiot. Who do I apologize to in order to make this right? Myself? Webern? Your mom?
  19. For me, Tony Williams has never sounded better than he did during that Water Babies era. I'm not able to put my finger on what makes that music move differently, but it does. Splashdown and Dual Mr. have such an open boogaloo groove that is wide open for his drumming. It spilled into the other tracks as well. I hear Emergency! in his drumming on Splashdown especially. Shame Emergency! Wasn't recorded the way these sessions were!!!
  20. For me it was the 'nineties, but Water Babies has always been a special album for me. I actually never owned IASW until this box came out. My brother had it. Our collections sort of happened like that.
