  1. I mean I had no idea it was rare.
  2. Listening now. The splices are pretty apparent to me. I think you meant that the overall composition doesn't have that "put together feel"?
  3. Wow. I had no idea.
  4. Yes. I love the live stuff!
  5. I've had it for years. Just thinking it will be perfect to revisit with the crowd...
  6. I'm having some friends over for my birthday in a couple of weeks. This album just moved to the top of the list.
  7. I maintain that my suggestion of Ran Blake and Jeanne Lee's Newest Sound Around fits the bill perfectly. Is this oop?
  8. I bought a bunch of used records at my local today. They didn't have any of the exclusive RSD releases that I was interested in. I'm a regular customer and it was great to see an hour long line for the register for the entire two hours I was there this morning.
  9. Big fan of corny pornography. Especially the kitsch, good stuff.
  10. Is that a compliment?
  11. Wow. I had no idea what I was missing by not clicking on this thread ever. I love it in here.
  12. I think corny is a you know it when you see it sort of thing.
  13. That part was funny.
  14. I think I get him mostly I guess, it's just that he's generally not all that funny. Maybe what I like about him. He doesn't seem to care. He amuses himself and probably calls bullshit on others that are as amused. This is definitely abrasive with a mean spirit directed toward anyone that wants some. Really odd bit of television there I feel. I like a lot of Zappa's music, but his character(s) come off a little bit strong.
  15. What's the story here? I just watched the Zappa clip too.
  16. I have and enjoy SACD, but I'm not upgrading existing titles from my shelves. If I already own something on CD, LP, SACD, it is rare that I replace or duplicate with another format.
  17. Just mention Elmo Hope, Warne Marsh, Baby Face Willette and Charlie Persip. Oh, and Cal Massey. Make a joke about Booby Hancock or Herbie Handcock. You'll be fine. No need to actually listen to, and enjoy the stuff!
  18. I have honestly never received a single email like that. Is it possible that gmail blocks these?
  19. Nice! Let me know what you think. I'm always happy to turn people on to music made by friends!
  20. Received this mail today. I've had the album for quite some time, working on the packaging. Hey, for $1.99, take a listen. Trey plays guitar in Ombak, Adam Larrabee (banjo here) led a trio on el guitar last year that focused on the music from Money Jungle. There is a lot of good stuff coming out of Richmond, VA these days. Old New Things will be playing this weekend, along with Scott Clark Quartet (serialist ornette influenced quartet) and guest Harris Eisenstadt Canada Day). Hello All, Just wanted to drop you a quick line to let you know that I'm releasing a CD today from my new group Old New Things. The record is entitled "Ghosts" and I'm really excited about it. It's a jazz/folk record featuring me on acoustic guitar and pedal steel. Joining me are some of my favorite musicians: Taylor Barnett - trumpet, Adam Larrabee - banjo, Emre Kartari - drums, Cameron Ralston - bass, and JC Kuhl - saxophones and clarinets. It features a few covers from Albert Ayler and J.S. Bach as well as several of my original compositions and some amazing contributions from Taylor and Adam. Click the link below to hear and buy it if you like it. I'm offering the digital download on sale today for only $1.99!! And it's $12 for the physical CD in the mail (btw-you can donate more than the suggested price too if you want to contribute to future recordings). Thanks and feel free to forward this to any jazz fans you know!! http://oldnewthings.bandcamp.com/album/ghosts (btw - it's on iTunes too, but you should buy it from the bandcamp -Trey pollardtrey gmail
  21. Good grief.
  22. Just to say that as a 20 year old kid with an AMG book full of scrap paper and a growing list of sidemen to look out for, Mingus turned me on to Joni Mitchell.
  23. Agreed re: Wollesen. A lot of friends who play drums really love his stuff. I think this album was 1996 or 1997?
