MILFORD GRAVES / DON PULLEN LP
.:.impossible replied to drumdoggy's topic in Offering and Looking For...
sounds like you have the second of the two covers... (a pity since the first cover is really beautiful and the second is just looking ok...) The second cover is fantastic in my opinion. Unfortunately, it doesn't feature an image of Don Pullen. -
it was a joke. went over like a lead balloon...

He changes names often, and usually only posts in threads about European fusion.

Haruki Murakami

I haven't read a Murakami novel in a while. None ever came close to Wind Up Bird Chronicles for me. Maybe that's because it was the first that I read. -
I wouldn't worry about Dmitry... he's his own man. I'm sure he's just not surfing chat boards.

Ghost, you are the man. Thank you for keeping us in tune. It is good to see that Elliott was such an important part of so many people's lives.

29TH ANNUAL CHICAGO JAZZ FESTIVAL
.:.impossible replied to robviti's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Not sad... Wrigley was a blast, even though Cubs lost. We had a great time. Saw Bill Dixon rehearsing the Exploding Star Orchestra on Thursday. Saw Eight Bold Souls on Friday. Yesterday, Keefe Jackson at Hungry Brain. Met Chuck and Mark and Rob. Chuck and Anne were kind enough to give us a lift back to the Carbon and Carbide, where we were staying. Coincidentally, this is the same building where many of Chuck's most impacting sessions were recorded! -
Thanks Jim. For an 18 year old, I guess it's not too bad. Thought she was a bit older than that. MG How much older did you think she was? 19? It is a teen beauty contest. Good thing she's not 17... you'd be locked up with that response! At that age, not only should you be able to identify every major nation on a map, you should be able to answer a direct question with a direct answer. Anyone remember the university admissions process? Essays, interviews, etc. Ann Curry is a melodramatic personality that doesn't seem to know how to act in front of a camera unless she is reading a news teleprompter in a dry, husky tenor. I'm sure she's very nice, but she gets on my last nerve with her "overacting". She's almost worse than Al Roker. The girl apparently won fourth place in this contest, despite this response, and the fact that she is not at all exceptional. One of the other questions that they showed on Today was something to the effect of "Who do you look up to more: Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, or Lindsay Lohan?" Maybe they decided that questions about reference materials were too difficult and decided to draw on television knowledge.

The only reason I even know that the beastie boys have a new album is because my sister in law went to see them at an opera house... what??? Is it instrumental? Here are two instrumental recommendations: Dr. Oh No's Oxperiment is not on the list? Have you not heard it yet? I haven't heard the new Beatkonducta install yet, but imagine it has to be up there.

29TH ANNUAL CHICAGO JAZZ FESTIVAL

We are going to catch a rehearsal probably on Thursday! The weather looks great. I tried to post a link to the google map that we put together. Still figuring that out. I thought it was a shared map, but... My wife hooked up a room at the Hard Rock Hotel at an unbelievable discount, which is right off Millenium Park. We've marked it, along with a bunch of other things we are thinking about hitting up. Google maps is great! We have a train diagram layered on top of the Chicago street map. We've marked dozens of places of interest, including the venues, times, etc. Pretty cool. -

Also, anyone want to throw out recommendations on what we should definitely see while we're there? Places to absolutely avoid? We've already got a google map going. Thanks! Looking forward to meeting y'all. -

Well, Saturday... we have options. This might be more my wife's speed. The more I think about Kidd Jordan, the less I think it is going to be something that we can both enjoy. Eight Bold Souls on Friday is another story. Maybe a change of plans? 10:00PM at the Hungry Brain, 2319 W Belmont, 773.935.2118 * After Fest * Sessions with Keefe Jackson, with special guests from Fast Citizens and the Exploding Star Orchestra -

Excellent bumper sticker, though I'd LOVE to see that on a billboard. There was a Baskin Robbins near where I grew up and the owner would put up a new saying every week. This would have been something he'd have come up with. -

Yeah, that record kicks ass. Clean Feed is a pretty reliable label, imo - especially the early Portuguese improv releases, if you can find 'em. Clean Feed catalog is available through emusic. Any particular Portuguese sessions that you would recommend? -
I bought a pair of Sennheiser PX100's for travel. They fold up nicely and sound good to me. I'd give them a similar description, soundwise, though I'm certainly not an audiophile. Are either of you familiar with these earphones? Hiya, I bought the iGrado when it first came out but found myself prefering my Ety Er6i for 'on the go', outside use. Also as a spectacle wearer the iGrado were a nightmare -- nothing really wrong with the sound (that heft your refer to is a pretty accurate description), just comfort issues with that ear band thing. I sold them on eBay to a Canadian buyer; they suffer the same high prices as us Brits! Give the Audio Technica ES7 a try for decent portable 'non earbud' cans, they might be just what you're looking for. This from a Grado convert!

mark and i have exchanged numbers. my wife and i are going to be at the velvet on saturday night. looking forward to meeting y'all. i took her to see kidd jordan, sabir mateen, william parker, and hamid drake in boston once... -
There is a guy named Casey Benjamin that plays saxophones, ewi, flute and keys with DJ Logic. I saw him playing with DJ Logic's band one night in DC five or six years ago when DJ Logic was playing with MMW. He's on this album: DJ LOGIC | The Anomoly I didn't try the links, but it looks like you can listen to full tracks there as well. Bean-E-Man does feature ewi I think. Also Drone.
