sickening penn state football allegations

Again -- JoePa's crimes go far beyond the specifics of this case. Yes, he was enabled by the Big Time College Sports Machine, but God, he was there for 61 years! -
Anyone check out the Johnny Cash/Derek & the Dominoes pairing on the lasted Layla boxed set?

Their recent reunion album was quite good. I love Bruce. I think he was one of the greatest singers of classic rock besides one of the best bass players, and I love him on the Michael Mantler stuff too. I recently watched a documentary about the Cream reunion. I was unaware of how much Ginger Baker can't stand Bruce! The success of Cream is quite surprising given how much the 3 of them couldn't stand one another. If you read Clapton's autobiography (a good read, btw), you'll find out how bummed out Clapton was that Winwood wanted Baker for Blind Faith. I agree on Bruce. However, I revisited "Songs for a Tailor" and "Harmony Row" today, and found them both to be quite pedestrian. -

Why would they be afraid at this point? I would think that they would feel free in every sense after the verdict. -

Yeah, but did he say anything even close to what I said (and nobody else here has said)? I know firsthand that ALL Penn Staters (and all of Pennsylvania for that matter) have drunk the JoePa Kool-aid for far too long. Sacrificing our principles for the sake of college athletics needs to end here, or this has all been meaningless. -

Hey, this is supposed to be a non-political thread! Those are some pretty sweeping generalized statements. Crimes against oneself may not be, but crimes against one's family can be considered crimes against humanity. The bigger picture crime exposed here is the way the NCAA and college sports programs treat student athletes like cattle to make a buck in the name of providing an education to those who can't afford one. THIS is what needs to change in the world of supposed academia. This is why I can tell anyone who asks without having to think about it the exact number of college sporting events I watch each and every year -- ZERO. No I meant when you hurt yourself - you are also hurting the people who love you. I didn't mean intentionally hurting those people, just that they are also the inadvertent victims of (usually what is) drug and alcohol abuse and also things related to Mental Health issues. With regards to the political content - what is the difference between raising the issue of harm to this person, Sandusky, (with a diagonal nod of approval for this person being harmed and/or killed by other inmates as some posts suggest) or raising the spectre of the State doing it? BTW I disagree with death penalties for the reason that innocent people will always be sentenced. I understood what you meant. There is a "diagonal nod of approval" for hurting Sandusky because what he did is considered disgusting to the core of every decent human being. For me, being a parent only serves to drive this point even further home. Don't turn this into yet another legalize mary jane debate. Maybe we need more mental health hospitals in this country. Good luck finding top notch shrinks to work 'em though! Your critique of the penal system in this country is tired and old. It's what we got. It's really quite simple -- you wanna avoid experiencing its shortcomings firsthand, you stay on the straight and narrow. Dig? -

Sounds like a good band. With lots of Organ too. Chewy. You must try West, Bruce and Laing - Why Dontcha and Live and Kicking. How 'bout Trower and Bruce? -

He wont. Time will tell though. Everyone will want a crack at the bad famous guy. To be applauded and get their 15 minutes. -
I think The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society is a great album. It shouldn't be blasphemous to say — though it feels like it — but I enjoy and play this Kinks record more than The White Album, its direct contemporary. The 2009 3-disc deluxe edition of Village Green even has some great songs ("Did You See His Name," "Rosemary Rose") that were left off the original release. Did anyone else here purchase the Sanctuary deluxe editions of The Kinks first seven records? All (except Village Green) are 2-disc sets, containing both mono and stereo mixes (except for Kinda Kinks, which evidently was only released in mono). The amount of bonus tracks, including BBC performances, short interviews, and some instrumentals, adds a huge amount of material to their catalog — and most of it is not just filler. Kinda Kinks is especially excellent — the second disc is more impressive than the first (original album) disc, with five demos (tracks 11-15) that are just lovely. In fact, I'd say that if you have any affection for this particular record (Kinda Kinks), you really need to have this 2-disc set. In November of 2011, Sanctuary released a UK-only 10-disc box set of The Kinks in Mono, which reissued their first seven records. It's already out-of-print, and going for impossible prices on Amazon and eBay. Did anyone here pick it up? I wish I'd known about it upon its release. I would have purchased it on Day One. Any UK members here still see it in shops? Why do you need to make such a direct comparison to a Beatles album? This isn't the Hoffman forum! It's like your trying to get someone to state a contrary opinion which, for me, is that I can UNEQUIVOCABLY state that there is no one Kinks album that I enjoy more than any one Beatles album. I can understand being an anglophile when it comes to rock music -- I'm one myself. But in the world of English rock band influence and history, the Kinks would not even make my top 50.

Yes, there's even a good chance that even the prison guards will "turn a blind eye" to ensure that he gets taken out. I'd be more than a little surprised if he gets to serve even 3 months of his sentence. -

AWESOME. If there's any real justice though, this verdict will have far wider implications than just the incarceration of one man for life. -
You're right. Old people usually are. Usually are what...old? Old people usually are....uh...now what was I going to say?.. ....right!

In the booklet that comes with the set, Stanley offers thanks to L. Ron. I just assumed that meant that he is a scientologist.
-
I heard the Al didn't like all the solo features on the Returns tour, and also that he was profoundly critical of the scientology beliefs that Chick and Stanley adhere to. I actually think that the criticism of the whole "Malmsteen" aspect of DiMeola's playing is overdone. He can be quite tasteful when he wants to be.

I'm glad you mentioned Gambale. I have to admit that when I first heard that he was the choice to fill the guitar chair, I had my doubts, based on his playing in the Electric band (or maybe based more on THE MUSIC played by that band), that he could hold his own. I have to say, after listening to and watching him in this setting, that he is indeed a fantastic player who displayed both great chops and great taste on this tour. I love it when THIS happens! I agree that Ponty is also magnificent here. Another musician I've gained a newfound respect for.

There are several Amazon Marketplace sellers who are simply OUT OF THEIR MINDS! There's one who not only overprices items, but fairly consistently sells their used copies for more than they sell their new copies.

I'm starting to get the feeling I'm gonna be doing this all year long: R.A. first in majors to 11! First N.L. pitcher in 68 years to give up no more than 1 hit in each of 2 consecutive starts. 13 K's tonight. A new career high for him. Incredible! Best pitcher in majors right now.

Here, the off-topic is more on-topic than the on-topic.

Well, how much more honest than that can you get? I mean, that's some integrity right there, in it's own way, to actually turn your anti-social tendencies outward and not inward. If not exactly integrity, then at least...industrious. Fuck all this self-loathing, self-pity shit, I want it, I take it. If I get it, I worked for it. Frank Morgan, BeBop Corporatist! Would you feel the same way if your grandma fell victim to his supposed charms?

One of those albums you buy, play once, and put away. I guess like everyone had to do a Bossa Nova album later on, in the early 60s, everyone had to do a New Thing album -- but Bob James of all people? This was his musical personality before he went light. He didn't just out of the blue try to do something trendy.

How 'bout "Stan Getz better"? Sounds like one for the Getz Stuff Quintet (apologies to Ronnie). I have a Denon manufactured Savoy Stan Getz cd. On the purple spine it clearly says "Stan Gets". Gotta love the Japanese! Literal assimilation at its finest.
