How 'bout "Stan Getz better"?

CTI reissues: box-set, 1971 concert, single titles
JETman replied to ghost of miles's topic in Re-issues
Because they're fun albums? Wounded Bird by it's very nature is going to get the lesser known albums to release, since their focus is to release albums that the original labels have no intention of bothering with. That by itself doesn't mean the material is mediocre, just that the projected sales aren't high enough for a major to reissue. Fun albums? I don't think so. There is much more worthy Bob Moses out there. As far as your other comment goes, I already knew that. However, with a low ratio of exceptions, it DOES mean that the material is mediocre! -
Definitely different, but worth checking out IMHO.

Henry Threadgill's Tomorrow Sunny / The Revelry, Spp

Yes, he is one of the music's warriors who still makes vital music. Kudos to him, and lucky for us! -
I was.

The covers are more of a sign of what BN turned into than anything resembling good decision-making.

Some indie jazz label folks circa 1978

WBGO will NEVER play Frank Wright. Try calling the better jazz station in NY. -

I can appreciate the efforts of labels like Wounded Bird as much as the next guy. However, to me, they focus just a little too much on the mediocre. Listening to some of the stuff they put out is like a being in a bad nightmare that leaves you feeling "dirty" once you've escaped from its hold. That being said, those Farrell albums are nothing to write home about, as is too much of the material the label puts out. Another good example of this is the release of the Compost albums. I mean, why bother? -
There's no right or wrong in the world of opinions.

I'm sorry, but that cover just looks cheesy. Sort of reminds me of an evil Felix the Cat.

But leaving aside the obvious difference that most of the NBA games in 1962 were never even filmed, let alone given the media exposure or public attention of the 2012 NBA, even Wilt wasn't expected by anyone to do the kinds of stuff that's expected of Lebron. The onus to win a team game with individual effort is on Lebron in a way it never was on Wilt. That's all I'm saying. When people talk about why the Warriors couldn't beat the Celtics, nobody points their finger and says "Wilt couldn't get it done." The reverse is true for LeBron - rather than ask why no Heat role player could score consistently enough in the 2011 Finals to give LeBron some time to rest, instead the narrative is all about LeBron shrinking in the fourth quarter. Yes, let's nominate Lebron for sainthood!!! He brought it on himself. And fyi, just as much, if not more, pressure existed for Jordan.

Please be more clear. The download is $25. The physical 4 cd set retails for $46.

R.A. first to 10! Strikes out a career high 12, and pitches a complete game 1-hitter. No walks. ERA is now 2.20. Oh yeah, and he broke Koosman's club record for consecutive scoreless innings which now stands at 32 2/3. Only UNEARNED run came in 9th on a David Wright error. Mets 9 Tampa Bay 1.

This came in an email from Laurie Pepper yesterday: Many new discoveries. Read (a little bit) about them on the blog, and download an exquisite and never before released "Body and Soul" ditto. Release date for the next album is firm, now. August 28th, 2012. Art with George Cables, Tony Dumas, Carl Burnett (the same gang as on the Ronnie Scott set). I'll let you know all!

You're obviously a cut above the rest of us jazz fiends!

I hope there's some archival stuff in the vaults from the American quartet!

Glad you're enjoying it! This is undoubtedly on my never-ending wish list -
Yeah, with Melky Cabrerra back in the line-up it will give the Giants more pop at the plate. I never thought I would hear anyone say that about him!

Hard to believe, but there are still 8 more to come!

What do our linguistic "traditionalists" think of this?
JETman replied to Pete C's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes, but that does not make it proper. ... Please, everybody stop the bullshit. Wow, not only a "fundamentalist," but an angry one... Language does not evolve by central planning. It's a chaotic process in which many variations come and go in casual usage, and some stick and become codified. I think you have a problem with chaos. Or maybe you have French blood. You're an analyst, too? Go back into your hole. 'dead languages' are ones that are no longer spoken, right? that would be a YES. -

I think you guys are focusing on the part of my argument which doesn't come close to being the "meat and potatoes" of what I'm trying to say. If that's the way you're used to manipulating in your real lives, then all y'all be in bigger trouble than I originally thought. Have at it! You can try to mask ignorance with all the "clusterfucking" and "skull-fucking" you want. It may sound cool, but I ain't buyin' it. -
Couldn't have put it better myself MG Thank you. The obvious is lost on many here.

Oh, you mean like my then 65-year old boss in 2005, who would often stride to my cubicle and proclaim "I want you to do a Google on colonoscopies for me"? (Yes, we were working on a project for a client who made colonoscopes.) At this point the only businesspeople that freak out about using company names as verbs or otherwise mangling them are the lawyers for those companies, as they're panicked about the resulting trademark dilution. (And why should we care what businesspeople think about the language anyway? We already let them police our pasts, decide what we can buy, decide what we can eat affordably, and exercise a de facto check on the government, now we're going to cede control over what comes out of our mouths to them too simply because OH GOD WE NEED THE MONIES?) You can couch it any way you want. Still, poor language usage = poor language usage, no matter how you slice it. We're not talking about what's said in the confines of an office. We're talking about impressing people with language skills. I grew up in the BIG city; I understand all the lingo. None of it is cool, or hip, or en vogue or impressive. The mere use of these words does not signify their inclusion in the English language. If it did, Kanye West or L'il Wayne would be the new Webster.
