As I pointed out in a post right above yours, we should be more worried about the "dumbing" (or crapping) down of baseball rather than questioning why a player can't hit at least .300 every day of a 162 game season.

Music does NOT have to swing to be good. Do you really think that Eicher is telling Kuhn, a musician for over 50 years, to cut an album that is ethereal, and not what Kuhn intended? As a matter of fact, I'm almost positive that the Venuses that you so love are the ones where the artists are being told what to play. Avant doesn't swing. Energy music doesn't swing. Hell, most Nessas don't swing. And yet, a lot of you guys are ALL OVER those. More misplaced ECM bias. No one would have to be told anything. But I don't care who you are. If you walk into the ECM studio, you know what's expected in general terms and you deliver. You record for Venus or Reservoir, well sure, you'd make a somewhat different kind of album, no doubt about it. Good thing Steve records for both types of labels. If the ECM style is to your liking, listen to that. If it's the other labels, listen to those. You're wrong. Improvised music, by definition, is not planned. I had this very conversation with John Abercrombie this past winter. To put it lightly, he was amused by people's general perceptions of Eicher and the label. I listen to all labels' records with an open ear absent of preconceived notions. If you haven't noticed, people LOVE to bash ECM. The reasons do not matter. To me, it may be the most successful music label, artistically speaking, that ever was. If you don't like the album, that's fine by me. Just don't blame it on the label. FWIW, I haven't heard Kuhn's new one, but am offended by a criticism that insults my intelligence.

Just noticed that Ivan Nova, the Yankees' most "consistent" pitcher over the last couple of years, is 4-1 with a 5.02 ERA! Does anybody else think there's something inherently wrong with an MLB where this can happen?

Really? Totally uninspired hockey from the NYR. They haven't dominated any of their 13 games yet. Even if they win game 7, they're going to need to play much more disciplined hockey to keep pace with Los Diablos. It's apparent they need another scorer and someone, anyone who can win faceoffs on a consistent basis. I'm pretty convinced Richards isn't that guy, which further convinces me that they overpaid him because the free agent class last year was just not that good. -

He just came back to the NHL after a couple of years off playing in Russia. Quite the opposite reaction for me. I'm surprised he did as well as he did during the regular season this year! -

Smart money says they exceed the Rangers' 54 years between cups. -
79-83 it is!

This is bringing a tear to my eye! I'm somehow reminded of a time when 27 straight zeroes occurred.

You can pinpoint their record right down to the exact number of wins and losses?

Rebuilding year? How many years is the goalie signed for? Rebuilding won't happen until they realize their mistake! 1975.......................and counting. -
Apparently Hamels doesn't remember when he was a young stud.

Maybe if you had inserted one of those goofy smilies, I would have gotten it. Don't mess with my Rangers though. This is the only sport where I REALLY care if my team wins a title. Petulance does rule on this board sometimes, and he does have me on ignore. -
Did you not see my post right above yours?

If you didn't find it necessary to waste your time with the "ignore" feature on an internet discussion forum, you would have noticed that I already mentioned the presence of two very good remaining west coast teams who might argue with east coast tri-state area dominance. However, before you make a fool of yourself by laughing so riotously, I would wait and see how everything plays out. Just some friendly advice. Sports predictions have a way of jumping up and biting one on the ass! -
Live in Zurich WAS released by Jazz Unlimited, which as I understand it, is affiliated with Storyville: http://www.allmusic.com/album/live-in-zurich-r2129631

One the one hand... Now, having said that... He better hope that he doesn't line up with Strassberg the next time he faces the Nats. What an asshole!!!

There's a couple teams out west which might have something to say about that. -

Rangers tie game with 6.6 secs left, and win less than 2 mins into OT!!! WOW. -
The Jets will make money just from his presence on the roster. Anything he does on the field is gravy. The thinking here in NY is that both he and Sanchez will be gone within a couple of years.

Depends on what brand champagne was being served...and can an a-g jazz artist afford assistants? My guess is that he doesn't need to afford them, that they're probably acolytes. Maybe Ratliff wasn't afforded the space to write an extensive article.....or five covering the details of his conversation with Cecil?
-
Nobody DESERVES to be written about in any publication, is my point. Humility happens far too infrequently in all walks of life. Take what you can get, and link the article. If you're gonna bemoan the inadequacy of the article, why bother linking it? To bring up yet another example of the obvious (jazz is disrespected in this country) to light?

With all this talk about reviving Blue Note, has anyone given any thought to what they'd actually like the "revived" Blue Note to look like should Mr. Was succeed in his endeavors? You've managed to avoid my original question. It seems that most get giddy at the mere mention of Blue Note without really knowing why. Not singling you out, Jim. So, why are we so giddy enough to start a thread about this latest development? Nothing better to do? The thread title contains the words "Blue Note"? Don Was is a force to be reckoned with? We've all morphed into Chewy-bacca like characters? What?
