They had a coaching change? It was a "forced" coaching change. And for all those paying attention, the Knicks never had any life in their season. They are a rag-tag bunch of mismatched players thrown together to justify the inordinately high ticket prices. This will ALWAYS be their m.o.

I know I'm inviting flaming given the way these discussion boards have evolved into a "gang up" atmosphere, but this morning I'm in one of those "I don't give a f***" moods. After listening to (and studying) jazz for the last 25 years or so, I just do not get why all music produced by artists like Cecil Taylor or Anthony Braxton is automatically labeled "genius". My own shortcomings aside, why not just celebrate that the New York Times has deemed Mr. Taylor a worthy subject, instead of lamenting the fact that the entire article wasn't devoted to him?

C'mon, Jim. Not the same thing, and you know it! Capitol is a much bigger label, releasing records of many more musical styles than Blue Note. I think you get the gist of what I'm saying, don't you? Enough with all the fanboy shit -- Blue Note is dead and has been for decades. Artists like Norah Jones have viable talent, but her talent will NEVER shine when she's constantly associated with the Blue Note recordings of greats like (dare I say it) Herbie Hancock. And now she's got some hip new 25 year old producer backing her up! Oy! Blue Note has way too much baggage. Don Was being asked to revive it reeks of things like Nick Cannon being asked to head up Nickolodeon just 'cuz he's hip. I ain't buyin' it. The music industry continues to insult us, all the while expecting us to just drop our hard-earned cash on their shiny new wares.

Knicks break record for the number of consecutive playoff losses with their 13th last night. Believe it or not, with this current group of management bumbleheads, I could see this getting a lot worse before it gets better. First order of business: ditch Melo. He is neither a great all-around player nor a great leader. Anyone who plays half the game (the offensive half) can't be. Anyone who lays down on a coach is off my team if I'm the owner. What a joke the Knicks have become.

I think it would be much more honorable to go forward with a new label name. This way, prior ghosts wouldn't be attached, and any new music could have half a chance to enter our hearts (or not) on its own merits. Otherwise, guys like Joe Lovano will always be "that white Italian dude who just can't do it for me like Joe Henderson once did".

With all this talk about reviving Blue Note, has anyone given any thought to what they'd actually like the "revived" Blue Note to look like should Mr. Was succeed in his endeavors? I mean, most of us have all of the important archival Blue Note dates in our grubby little hands, don't we? What else do we need? Aside from sentimentality over a label that is near and dear to our jazz-lovin' hearts, but that has been a shell of what it used to be over 4 decades ago, what could we possibly want/need? An even better sounding "Out to Lunch"? I'm all for starting a label which produces vital music. But I believe that the name "Blue Note" is so deeply ingrained into each of our minds as being synonomous with pioneering music that any music produced going forward could not possibly be "Blue Note" in character. The world is different now, and so is the music industry. Just wondering.

Our friend Mr. Pujol put out cd versions, with the original covers contained in Chuck's post, 3 or 4 years ago.

You're forgetting about Bernie Williams. -
Strange that you think of Don's viability in terms of his capacity to score hit records. Better to look at the quality of the music he created (employing the likes of Marcus Belgrave, John Patitucci, and Mel Torme over several albums), as well as his contributions to other people's music as a producer. You're misreading my comment (your bad), and are making a great leap of faith with regard to what I actually meant. I was not ranking on the guy. He's talking about "current" sound, and his hit had to do with dinosaurs (the very distant past). Get the irony?????? Anyway, I wouldn't call being producer of any Rolling Stones album post 1973 a great achievement.

This goes to what I was saying about the Knicks. The question I have is: do the Knicks now have the guts to suspend Stoudemire w/o pay indefinitely? I already know the answer, and this is the problem with sports today. The inmates are running the asylum. As a matter of fact, I believe that the only remaining major sport where this is even close to being untrue is hockey. There are lots of reasons for this, but I won't go into them here.

Would that be before or after the effects of the priapism take hold? -
I grew up a mile from the Steinway piano factory.

I especially enjoy the STAN GETS one!

Received this yesterday. It IS officially licensed. For those who care about such things, it is a CD-R. Good stuff. Typical JATP circus. Good MJQ set. Good MJQ with Stitt, Getz, Gillespie set. Good Krupa Quartet set. One unique item -- Ella playing harmonica for the entire last tune on disc 2.

Why is everyone focusing on shipping? It's easy enough to work out the differnce between the total costs. Go from there. For the mathematically challenged, [(Amazon UK price/1.2) x approx. 1.6 + 2.09 x 1.6 + 0.99 x 1.6] = cost in USD for ONE item For a more accurate conversion rate, I use: www.oanda.com For me, Amazon UK seems a hell of a lot less "Bezos-ish" than Amazon US anyway. Sometimes the experience makes all the difference.

Shipping is 2.09 GBP for 1st item, and .99 GBP for each item including the 1st. I suggest loading up and combining several items into one order so the damage per item is minimized. Most of the time, even multi-disc sets are counted as one item. They really are a great outfit (far better than the US counterpart). I usually receive things from them in a week (sometimes less) here in NY. They are completely courteous and professional AND items that we pay a mint for in the US can often be found much cheaper through them. One such example for me was the 71 disc Miles set upon release. I paid much less (around $70 or $80) through them than I would have here. Additionally, keep in mind that prices on their site are divided by 1.2 in order to subtract out VAT that US based customers would not pay.

Bound as in like the original Miles Columbia sets? If so, that should give many people plenty more to whine about.

This has been moved from an initial release date of 5/1/12 to a new release date of 7/15/12. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that very few have contributed at the higher (more than just the physical cd) price points. Anyway, I look at this as having another 2 1/2 months to think about it.

Does anyone think we'll ever get liner notes we can actually read on a Wounded Bird cd?

While I for one applaud, appreciate and do not in any way want to diminish the significance of Mr. Horwich's efforts in this area, the Japanese have been producing "luxurious packaging" for cd's in all genres of music for at least 20 years!

I won't link it, lest I get reprimanded, but Insight was combined with Solid Ground on a cd 2 years ago.
