  1. Just curious -- what's your problem with this one?
  2. In what capacity? Grunwald has had the interim tag removed as GM. I don't see Isiah as Coach as Woodson has done a good job and injuries have depleted them, first Lin, now Shumpert and Jeffries is very limited because of his knee. As I see it, a very dangerous situation is developing in Knick land. Remember, both Woodson AND Grunwald played college ball with Thomas. And.......Woodson was seen having dinner with Isaiah in White Plains last week on the day that Grunwald became GM. It's a well known fact that Isaiah had some influence over the Carmelo trade which hastened Donnie Walsh's exit. Natural scorer or not, Anthony is NOT a winning basketball player. He has absolutely no leadership abilities. You would have NEVER seen a guy of Messier's makeup quit on a coach, for instance. It's no secret either that Dolan is incredibly bad for the whole Garden Empire. Don't ya think it's just a little ballsy to charge $2,500+ for courtside seats to have the privilege of watching a losing basketball team? I guess I can thank my lucky stars, though, that Sather finally caved and listened to Torterella as far as not trading away the farm for over the hill talent goes. This will never happen on the basketball side of things. There is no farm system in b-ball, as you know. The Knicks will always somehow be at or near the cap. They will never be able to attract top-notch, make-a-difference type talent because of this AND they'll always be just good enough to earn themselves relatively low draft picks. Either way, this situation will not change anytime soon, and the NBA's most important franchise will continue to go title-less for many years to come. It's a shame really that no top player wants to come here as it is seen by many to be THE place to be lifestyle wise. Have I been clear enough for you? To make matters even worse, rumours are running rampant that Dolan will make a ridiculous desparation offer to Phil. This is just further proof that the Knicks just can't do things the right way.
  3. With Shumpert done for the next 6-8 months, a four and out seems likely. But alas, the Knicks now have bigger problems than they already had. They are a very poorly run organization, plain and simple. I fear Isaiah may be looming.
  4. Flat? I think he may mean "tart". Jackie's playing from this period is my favorite. His Mosaic and the Redd are two of my favorite Mosaics, period.
  5. While fine enough, all of these All-Star recordings from this period are beginning to sound alike to me. It may be time for me to give up the ghost.
  6. How sad that the guy who scored "The Saint" and "Danger Man" had to end up collaborating with the likes of Pete Townshend. Simply put, this comment befuddles me.
  7. They may be the most complete team left in the playoffs. They are strong and hard working from goalie on out. The tide started to turn a couple of years ago when Torts convinced Sather to go young and homegrown. In Staal, Girardi, McDonagh and Del Zotto, I think they have the best "top 4" defensive core in the league. Having been nominated for both the Hart and the Vezina, Lundquist is obviously solid. They may not have the brightest offensive stars in the league, but when you've got a group as defensively responsible as they are, that obviously makes up for those deficiencies. Despite their youth, they are a grounded and well-coached group that should be good as least for the next few years. It's finally a good time to be a Ranger fan. This, and the fact that the Islanders are already 29 years (and well on their way to surpassing the Rangers' 54 years) into their Cup drought, makes me an absolutely giddy New York hockey fan.
  8. Rangers looking tough. I'm starting to believe! Kreider gets his 2nd game winning goal in just his 6th NHL game. Unbelievable considering that he was playng college hockey just 3 weeks ago.
  9. I didn't know many people paid attention to what THOSE musicians were playing during that time since most of those guys didn't even know what they were doing --- they were too hopped up on coke!
  10. This has drawn mixed reactions here in NY. What's your take?
  11. Try checking out any of the 3 King Crimson Larks' era albums.
  12. lol you keep saying "L.A. pop album" like it's a term that has universal meaning that we're all supposed to know.
  13. Rangers v. Caps beginning Saturday at 3 PM. Devils going into OT in game 7 right now.
  14. Pelfrey's career as a Met likely over.
  15. You're right -- it isn't about them. All the talk of the Yardbirds and not about what came after just kind of astounded me. I saw it as yet another predictable slight against Zep. FWIW, if the world ended today, who do YOU think left the bigger musical legacy. Here's a clue for you -- it's not Beck.
  16. heeeeeeawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Not gonna argue with you about whose talents or career are more valid. All I'll say is that it's lonely at the top. Jealousy and hard feelings abound. I'm sure Page isn't losing any sleep over it. Sure, Beck's a great talent, but once he chose the little Scottish elf as his frontman, he couldn't hang with Page.
  17. Typical ig'nant comment, Allen. Looks like the backwoods of Maine have robbed you of more than just your chutzpah!
  18. They really are one of the good 'uns, but they used to be gooder up to a few years ago. Sign of the times I guess. In any case, have fun while you're there.
  19. Summer of 64 would've been Eric 'Slowhand' Clapton with the Yardbirds, then Beck '65-66, then beck & Page v. breifly, then Page 67-8 Thanks. So I guess I heard Clapton even before I went to the first ever Derek and the Dominos concert and kept asking "who's Derek? Where's Eric Clapton?' The 2nd guitarist at that show was Dave Mason, not Duane. I think it was before they recorded. And I guess I didn't hear Beck until the '80s when he was in a movie I was working on. I realized he was important when grips kept coming up and thanking me for letting them spend a day listening to Jeff Beck. I find it hilarious that nobody's mentioned that when Beck left the Yardbirds, he left Page holding the bag on some substantial touring commitments for the band. Page hurriedly put together a rag-tag group of 2nd rate musicians, and played the dates as the New Yardbirds. When this band became more successful than little Jeffy could ever hope to be in his wildest dreams, he had the audacity to accuse little Jimmy of stealing material and thunder from him. The rest as they say is history. Despite his talents, Beck's a big-time prick in my book. I was never able to get into any of his stuff, save his holy trinity recorded in the mid-70s. His flash leaves me colder than Holdsworth's playing, which is really saying something.
  20. I don't believe Sacha Distel or Rene Thomas have been mentioned.

    Gene Quill

Just to be clear, I'm a big Phil Woods fan up to a point (probably his sideman appearance on Red Garland's "Sugan" from, I think, 1957), but after that not much at all. In essence, you've just negated 50+ years of his output. I'm not sure he is deserving of such an honor.
  22. Yes, on these shores, "Dick" is a commonly used nickname for "Richard". Think "Tricky Dicky Nixon"!
  23. Looks like the Burning Dog CD can be found quite cheaply on Amazon.com, though the paired album is a bit pricier. Both are available on eMusic, so I'll probably go that route. Buyer beware -- the single cd is actually a CD-R on demand!
  24. Their price for a USED Bird Benedetti set is preposterous at $275. The set will be in print as long as Mosaic exists. Someone there obviously doesn't know their shit.
  25. Not sure -- was Artest one of the last products of the Carnesecca era at SJ's?
