  1. Bull shit. Really? I think you'd get a different take from the director of Apocalypse Now. Me neither. Looks like complete kaka. Funny show. Basically Charlie Sheen's life story.
  2. Thanks for that, Brad. I don't recall listening to her in the wee hours, but heard her call Mike and Dog a few times back in the day.
  3. Yes it is. I'm looking forward to this.
  4. http://www.boston.co...brenner_so.html Oh yes, the whole goal for MLB is to do what ever the Yankees want. I'm sure the Yankees, Red Sox, and all other "big market teams" would make so much more money in ten team AL & NL leagues. Well, that's the kind of leagues we have for Fox MLB Game of the Week, and look at what great ratings those games get. The one thing I really want to see in baseball is a team salary minimum, where a team has to spend a certain amount of money on their roster -- none of this putting a AAA team out there, don't pay them a cent, and make a big profit. But Hank, what a jerk. I'm afraid he inherited his jerkiness!
  5. ok. Can we NEVER mention Grand Funk again? And I really do mean NEVER :rsmile:
  6. Not what I said - I did make the point that we lapped up oodles of US rock, meaning to make clear it was very good quality. Good lord, America invented the genre. I might have a distorted take on those times as I really stopped listening to rock c.1976. My memory of the Foreigner/Rush era (late 70s) is of them having little traction in musical scene dominated by punk/new wave. Slade were primarily a pop band - they may have started out on the general rock circuit but somewhow adapted to the the whole Glam-Rock thing around '72 and rolled out a sequence of very catchy singles. They were also very tongue-in-cheek; I might be wrong, but I'd always assumed GFR were more 'serious' about themselves. Sorry about the US/Canadian mix up. I know that YOU did not say that! I did, and it has always served me well! We can probably debate all day as to whether we Americans "invented the genre". Jazz - yes, R 'n R - not so sure.
  7. Not yet ... I think that some stuff on one of the older jazz sets, maybe HRS, was from the Fantasy vaults.
  8. Fwiw, Rush is popular in the UK. They are from Toronto after all. Again fwiw, Rush preceded Foreigner. For me (American btw) it's a pretty simple sweeping generalization: British invasion rock bands = great American rock bands = BAD, very BAD.
  9. He's phenomenal on keys on the Aja album. Wayne, btw, blows a sick tenor solo on that album as well.
  10. If you reread my posts, you'll notice skepticism, but not out and out disbelief. A/B'ing is definitely NOT worth my time. Life's too short. If you're happy with the WB's, I suppose that's all that matters.
  11. I think GFR did the same thing: Produced by Frank Zappa! Jim said they sucked. So did I. We only disagree on how big they were. None of my circle of friends who were able to discern good music from bad never considered GFR more than a badly placed ink blot on the musical canvas. They were hacks who could barely play 2 chords well, let alone three.
  12. Dude, I was there too. Calling them HUGE is a gross overstatement of fact.
  13. But Wounded Bird is known for doing nothing!
  14. Really?
  15. I didn't think they were the big thing in ANYBODY'S circle!
  16. Yes, both Miles and Jack cook on the first 3 tunes! As to reacting differently based on medium, I'm not sure. Just glad to have it anyway I can get it. Which causes a more positive reaction in you?
  17. It was released in the 90s as a Columbia Jazz Masterpieces cd against Holdsworth's wishes. I have it. I find it interesting, but just ok.
  18. And there's certainly no guarantee of greatness or consistency in the Rivers material! Not even going to comment on the ideas put forth regarding historical or musical significance.
  19. I think you are being a bit over the top in your interpretation of my comments.
  20. Personally, I would much rather hear younger, more vital musicians rather than older ones living on past glories. But that's just me. YMMV.
  21. Expect to pay (unjustified) big bux at the Blue Note, one of the city's most "full of themselves" jazz clubs IMHO.
  22. Don't hold your breath. FWIW, I'd buy one. If Columbia UK is not a Sony-owned enterprise, it's not likely that this will happen.
  23. This one looks good too. Same day as the Ellery Eskelin. Yeah, I know. Tough choice. It may come down to how cold it is, as 55 Bar does not take reservations and I've been told to expect a long wait outside prior to the show.
  24. This is the one I'll be attending: 2/19 at the 55Bar Binney, McCaslin, Colley, A. Sanchez
