Again, to a native AND lifelong New Yorker such as myself, Kay and Sterling have always been amongst the most annoying and obnoxious sports announcers I have EVER heard in my life. My opinion, I'm afraid, is shared by many, even Yankee fans. I can still remember Sterling doing Islander broadcasts when they had just joined the NHL with his highly agitating (but very infrequent) call of "Islander goal, Islander goal, Islander goal.....".

After listening to lots of prog over the last 4 decades, the only 3 albums I keep coming back to are Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black and Red. So my suggestion to all is just to chill and listen to some Fripp. IMHO, that's all you'll ever need.

Ben Sidran's Talking Jazz Series - $8.99 on Amazon
JETman replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This is an mp3 download. -
Trust me, Rudy is far from extraordinary!!! He is an asshole of the highest order. As an NYC native, I should know.

Did anyone else see the look of disbelief on Jim Riggelman's face when Bernadina got picked off second to end the Mets - Nats game? Priceless!!!!!!!

New? 4CD Anthony Braxton set Old Dogs
JETman replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Actually, I'm more into Hemingway than I am into Braxton, but I'll have to get this as well. -

I was told by Fred at Mosaic that the ETA for these sets is late June. -
Point taken, but I still don't want to buy the Mosaic just to find out the music doesn't really speak to me. I think even the recent 4 CD set might be too much. I am a bit more interested in the John Carter Select. I do have Castles of Ghana and a few others, but I still don't reach for them that often. I am trying to re-prioritize and maybe having hundreds of CDs on the shelves that I never listen to isn't the way I should play out the second half of my life. I have one bookcase of the most important CDs (maybe 300) and I could sell all the rest off and probably never notice the difference. I've been thinking about that a lot lately, especially as the second hand CD market looks set to collapse as well. Please try one of the Threadgills on About Time before you toss him in the dust bin. Personally, I find the Pi's more satisfying, but the About Time's are great as well.

Do we really need more subpar Jimmy Smith to be reissued?

A Caravans Mosaic?
JETman replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Have any gospel collections appeared on Bear Family? I wouldn't say no to a Bear Family box But I like the idea of Mosaic expanding its horizons a bit. MG I believe Mosaic HAS already expanded its horizons! See Four Freshmen, Braxton, Threadgill and Carter/Bradford for starters. -
Again, how did you decide to place yourself in the middle of a Mets-Phillies discussion? You did it because of your hatred for all things New York, especially the Yankees. My advice to you is to grow up, and start worrying about things that are important. Otherwise, you're in for a long and miserable run.

You're proving my points beautifully And your memory is quite selective. Have you forgotten about the 86 years of futility?
-
The JET in my screen name does NOT refer to the team. Bostonians aren't arrogant?.
-
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO. OUCH. Trust me. You could not even begin to hang with me in a war of words. Why don't we end it here, before the whole board realizes what an idiot you are (if that hasn't happened already). You're making a fool of yourself, and are a little boy playing in a man's world. Besides, you jumped into a situation that had absolutely nothing to do with you or your team.
-
Do you actually try to be a dick, or is it an unholy accident?
-
You're awfully mouthy for someone who knows nothing about me, and who is a fan of a team that has equally as little chance to make the playoffs this year. How can a Sox fan even bring up the subject of a string of disappointing seasons without looking and sounding like an ignoramus?
-
Does anyone outside of you still think the Phils are bound for something special this year? FYI, the Phils aren't as good and the Mets aren't as bad as you think. If we're not clear on this, let me bring it home: TWENTY SEVEN STRAIGHT ZEROES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Let me get this clear. If Purdie wrote an autobiography and made the claims he made in his interviews, you'd accept those claims as fact, but you're extremely skeptical of a reference in a book published by a university press by an author who is the chair of music theory at U. Mich.? Some of you are being way too literal!

That's like saying that anything I claim to be true IS true, as long as I place it in a book I've written. Guess I'll just throw out my life as a library and information professional. Do as you wish, young man.

With higher likelihood than with what one says about others.
