It's a burn of the mp3s. I haven't bought one of these, but there's a review on Amazon of Ran Blake's The Blue Potato that cites the source as a dirty needle drop. Sounds like these are to be avoided, for the most part.
-
I'd vote for both too, but I think the Quebec/Hardee would give you more mileage.
-
I passed on Like Cool a few years back and still kick myself for it.
-
Update: after testing it, I've sent along a new link that should work fine. Of course, let me know if something is wrong.
-
Dammit, disregard the PM I sent you all. The site I used to upload the file is no good-- something I ought to have checked first. To this technologically disinclinded person, this is the worst part of doing one of these. I will send along a better link.
-
Alright, I've sent download links to all who asked. If there are any problems just let me know. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy it!
-
Gotta say Our Man as well. Just overwhelmingly powerful playing on that one, almost scary at times!
-
I'll be uploading tomorrow. The pressure is on! I hope you all enjoy it.

Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
colinmce replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Jazz Piano: A Smithsonian Collection (Smithsonian), Disc 2 I really can't recommend this one enough. The discs are split roughly into 1: early jazz & stride, 2: swing to bop, 3: bebop, 4: postbop. Mary Lou Williams, Art Tatum, Ellington, Jess Stacy, Nat King Cole, Erroll Garner, Jimmy Jones, and Bud Powell on this volume. The material is easy enough to find elsewhere, but as a listening experience this is well worth tracking down. As with most Smithsonian box sets, it's absurdly cheap secondhand. I got mine for about $10. Four CDs in a handsome 12x12 box with a thick booklet of annotations by Dick Katz -
Are there any box bargains currently available?

Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Mosaic for $75 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001IMFZXG/ref=sr_1_7_up_1_main_olp?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1348771593&sr=1-7&condition=used -
The Never No Lament box is probably in a lot of members collections, but really don't sleep on the Mid-Forties set. It might just be my favorite Ellington music: the magic of the Blanton-Webster years with, at least to my ears/tastes, an expanded musical pallete. A great price on some of the best music you could ever come by!

JAW got to what I was wondering about-- I thought the CD had sessions w/out Miles but wasn't sure. And I definitely want those so I'll go in for Conception. Thanks.
-
I just picked up Chronicle, and while I have the majority on OJC CDs there were a few sessions I was out. My question is is all the material from the Conception CD on the box or do I need this CD to supplement?

This one is on my list. -
ECMs are cheap at Jazz Loft, who also stock the Euro-only titles. If you wait 6-12 months, the price cuts in half at places like Movie Mars, Import CDs, Red Tag Market et al at Amazon.
-
One of those players who doesn't drop a bum note and adds something to every session he's on.
-
Yeah, the Ornette has a few exclusive tracks plus the relevant passages from Jazz Abstractions.
-
Best of luck and wishes to Butch. I was just enjoying some of his stellar cornet solos on HOME.

Jazz indies and what else they did
colinmce replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Thanks for this, very informative. I think, put in these terms, Verve's forays into folk and rock (Tim Hardin, The Velvet Underground) could almost be said to presage the moves Blue Note would make about 30 years later. -
The Jazz Loft carries Intakt and you can get some at Amazon, just rarely at less than $20/disc.
-
I wish Intakt product was cheaper to get in the US.

Tough. Black Saint/Soul Note, Columbia, and ... Blue Note, I suppose. That would get me most of my favorites. No Bird, though

I like it OK. I think it drags a bit. I have a 60s Fantasy reissue that looks like this America edition:
