  1. Scooped up John Carter's "Variations" on Moers w/ Bradford and Newton for $12 on Ebay. Carter's records are always priced ludicrously high on Amazon and Buy It Now yet I've scored several of his LPs at auction for very little with no competition. There's a lesson in there somewhere.
  2. Thanks for the info, very helpful. I basically want to use it to keep up on new jazz which is something I simply can't afford to do buying CDs. I'll have to think about it.
  3. So perhaps a stupid question, but I'm considering joining the site and would like to know how exactly it works. So you have your monthly plan for say, 40 songs or whatever. Does that mean your monthly fee covers that many songs and after you exceed that number you pay on a track by track or album by album basis? I found the site very unhelpful as far as explaining how it works. In short: if you have a 40 song plan, you don't pay for 40 songs per month beyond your monthly fee?
  4. Shank/Cooper Mosaic Select at Amazon for $40 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000260ARK/ref=sr_1_39_olp?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1312127732&sr=1-39&condition=used
  5. Or you could just get the Complete Blue Note box for $15-20 on Amazon.
  6. Cut-outs. They get the same overstock as FYE.
  7. AS a 5xCD set I think that's pretty reasonable. I just meant the pricing is off in relation to the other 3 volumes.
  8. http://aboptv.com/ceciltaylorartmuseum.html If I had $500 I'd ... track down a copy of Berlin '88. But if I had another $500 I'd definitely devote it to this worthy cause.
  9. Unless the packaging is somehow different, that's complete crap. But maybe that price point is just what it takes to get this set on the market in 2011.
  10. Cecil Taylor - Solo (Trio/Japan only LP, 1973) $3.96 http://www.amazon.com/Solo/dp/B003XJ95PG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311346404&sr=8-3
  11. Wow. I got mine for $25 used not long after moving to Austin a few years ago. Seemed like a reasonable price at the time! Market's not getting any better on this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTHONY-BRAXTON-WILLISAU-QUARTET-1991-hat-4CD-/320726968202?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D1%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D1430918513608068819#ht_735wt_948
  12. Right, but wasn't Expression ready to go before he died?
  13. Edit: Dusty Groove to the rescue! They will be following the LP sequence: Expression/Live At The Village Vanguard Again/Om/Cosmic Music/Selflessness
  14. I welcome the release as well, but am wary of the price. I paid less than $40 for the other boxes on release day from a small independent shop. Assuming this one is the same layout & everything, $65 is an enormous rip-off. As for the contents, At The Village Vanguard Again! and Expression are certain; how they handle the posthumous releases is something I wonder about. Will they follow vinyl releases or just deal with the titles previously released on CD? If the latter is the case, my guess on the other three are Sun Ship, Transition and Interstellar Space, but Om, First Meditations and Cosmic Music could also be possible?
  15. Nice. I nabbed that for $8 myself a couple years back.
  16. I've been wanting to place this very order. Payday is tomorrow, so ...
  17. Yeah, that's it, keep going ... Basically, that is what I've heard. I do like Sonny, but I see what you're saying. Now I can downgrade my urge to "See what I feel when it hits Running Low"
  18. Went on with this one... into CD4 by now - great! Blargh ... yet another set on my 'bypass' list that I now feel an insatiable urge to own.
  19. The boxes are also just a glossy photo pasted on a box, not embossed like earlier versions. And the prices are little better than secondhand. Thumbs down.
  20. To think of the obvious bond shared by him and Bruce makes this all the more sad. RIP indeed.
  21. Mr. Braxton is known to be a voracious record buyer and listener. I find him to be especially conversant in jazz records, which many musicians aren't always (in jazz and beyond).
  22. Sonny Clark w/ Ike Quebec, "Deep In A Dream" off Leapin' & Lopin' which I listened to for the first time. Exceptional, like everything Ike did at the time.
  23. The Bennik/Doran/Anderson and One Great Day are out. I stumbled on this bit from a Ken Peplowski blindfold test that's got me very excited to hear the Carter-Bradford that will be out in the next batch:
  24. Geez, they need to stop! I'll never catch up ...
