Charles Mingus, Kenny Dorham, Freddie Hubbard for RSD 2025
romualdo replied to ghost of miles's topic in New Releases
You bet!! never experienced this before where a CDr created from a faulty CD plays clean - generally if there's an issue with the file you won't be able to extract it from the CD to create the CDr -
Charles Mingus, Kenny Dorham, Freddie Hubbard for RSD 2025
romualdo replied to ghost of miles's topic in New Releases
received my Dorham CD today & in my CD/SACD player the distortion on track 7 (& part of track 6) makes it unlistenable BUT the whole CD plays fine on my apple CD drive (computer). I also created a CDr (extracted AIFF files) from the defective disc & lo & behold it plays perfectly - what gives!!!! - it can't be the files then but a likely disc defect -
I have the Henderson Mosaic & the (J) SHM Mode CD - both have the alt (tk #20) The alternate take (tk #20) of Mode For Joe from the Mosaic is the same as the alt tk on the SHM CD - both are about one & a half minutes longer (9 min 30 sec) than the master version
-
as Jazzbo just indicated it is indeed in the Mosaic The other alternate "Black" from Mode was released very early on with the first CD issue of this release
-

Thanks for the tip but again shipping is ridiculously high to Australia ie 44.95 euros (DHL only again) - I've emailed Honest Jon's to see if they intend to carry these LPs
-
I did try Honest Jon's earlier (been buying from them for a few years now) - not listed yet Did eventually manage to get the 2LPs into a basket but the shipping to Australia is a killer ie £52 for 2LPs!!! that's over $110 Australian (only option is DHL express) - hopefully other shops will carry & this won't to be a limited release
-
tried to pre-order both but this initial pressing with "poster" appears to be already sold out actually I've tried multiple items & all are unorderable due to being "sold out" - what gives?

was released in 1992 I bought my copy in 1999

Hoping for that too BTW The Graham Lock book "Forces In Motion, England 1985" is the perfect accompaniment to these concerts https://www.amazon.com/Forces-Motion-Meta-reality-Creative-Interviews-ebook/dp/B07FFN3CNZ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1217UR02YLSWS&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.50larZn263PGkW_EuXtE7PR-mW5nN65gkHrjwaRzNybir6IgtlskkJ7lpZWsTbvu8bBJoke5VcqOMNSIoCN38V56zwvrR2Gl9S19j2nDOxJoWyW1mRzz6wbg9Ta9lu3z7BOJjK0EalA_aEO4cIRE8rsn622isgKaw1YTB180MVk.ATmqNVbMHs4s1n34Yh9L2mfBpsfh1CU-gxlRmW3qNbY&dib_tag=se&keywords=graham+lock&qid=1745794846&s=books&sprefix=graham+lock%2Cstripbooks-intl-ship%2C380&sr=1-1

Burning Ambulance will be releasing a large swathe (4 venues plus) of the November '85 UK Braxton Quartet tour (12 venues, each with 2 sets ie 24 concerts) Sheffield (19/11), Leicester (20/11), Bristol (21/11) , Southampton (22/11) plus 4 soundcheck tracks (After the Rain, Four, All The Things You Are & On Green Dolphin St) - it will be the equivalent of a 9CD set. Looks like it's only downloads & will be available from June 4 - source material is Graham Lock's cassette recordings (tweaked by Chris Trent) so quality may not be up to the Leo releases (or were these from the same source?) Leo had previously released 3 of the 12 ie London (13/11), Birmingham (17/11) & Coventry (26/11) concerts as double CDs back in the 90s I've had the Coventry set since the early 90s & this tour (with Crispell, Hemingway & Dresser) is up there with Braxton's best recordings IMHO https://burningambulance.substack.com/p/anthony-braxton-80th-birthday-release?utm_campaign=email-half-post&r=2dyw1q&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email https://burningambulancemusic.bandcamp.com/

Read the news earlier today One of the great bands spanning 5 decades plus David's solo work (including Richard Thompson, Red Crayola/Mayo Thompson etc) resonated for me "Final Solution", one of the standout 70s singles IMHO RIP David
