  1. Amazon UK have just dropped the price for the 13CD Davis set down to 26.46 pounds Couldn't resist - after removal of VAT the box costs 22.05 pounds (35 Aussie $'s) & free shipping to Australia That's just under $2.70 a disc - can't go wrong here Can now offload all those Spanish boots - already had 60% of the material but it's nice to have it all in one set
  2. Yes, I think I already have a large chunk of this - have all of the above (including Capitol sessions) plus the Mosaic (contains "The Greatest Trumpet of Them All - DG Orch but technically an octet - this may be in the set) Material missing (1954) Norgran 1023/1090/Verve 8178 - Diz Big Band+ Johnny Richards Orch (part of this was to be released on the now cancelled Lucky Thompson Mosaic Select) no CD release (maybe Japan?) (1955) Norgran 1083/Verve 8173/Verve 2317080 - Big Band Sound of DG -> partly released on CD (1960) Verve 8386 - DG & His Orch - A Portrait Of Duke Ellington -> CD release (1960) Verve 8394 - DG & His Orch - Gillespiana -> partly released on CD epj - many thanks for the info - with my Lord Discography & your listing I could piece together this set
  3. The one I can see on Amazon has 13 discs
  4. The 13 CD Davis box looks very tempting - have found date/location details from pics on amazon but no track details I'm trying to compare numbers of titles associated with each session & cross referencing it with the Miled Ahead discography site Jazzbo, how comprehensive is this box? - does it exclude some titles from each session (where MD may not be present or not soloing) any chance of a track listing or is that too mammoth a task to ask?
  5. very interesting - don't know much about this label - how legit are they (anything like Membran?) probably will have a lot of this material already. Can't seem to find track listings for the set. Feed back on this label & its other releases would be greatly appreciated Amazon UK have this for 21 pounds -> probably a better deal for me as shipping is free & VAT will also be removed
  6. nice one - thanks for the discography
  7. have been keeping my fingers crossed for a few years now - I remember Mosaic mentioning a possible Konitz Verve set This is high on my Mosaic wants list
  8. The Golden Years of the Soviet New Jazz series is highly recommended, especially Vols I & IV (IMHO) Leo Feigin has only pressed 750 copies of each set If you're a Ganelin trio fan then Vol. IV is essential - contains a large swathe of their solo, duo & trio projects, Chekasin quartets/quintets etc (originally released as Leo LPs plus unreleased material) Vol. 1 contains material by Sergey Kuryokhin, Valentina Ponomareva, Anatoly Vapirov & Volkov Guyvoronsky
  9. pm sent on Archie Shepp/Lars Gullin Quintet - The House I Live In (Steeplechase) w/T.Montoliu, NHOP, A.Riel $6 Golden Years of the Soviet New Jazz, volume II (Leo) 4 discs $17 Golden Years of the Soviet New Jazz, volume III (Leo) 4 discs $17
  10. pm sent on Al Cohn/Zoot Sims/Tony Scott - East Coast Sounds (OJC) $6 Bobby Jaspar & his Modern Jazz (Vogue digipak, 23 tracks) $10 Les Jazz Modes - Mood in Scarlet (Dawn/Blue Moon) $8 Randy Weston - Carnival (freedom/Black Lion) $12 Abdullah Ibrahim - Blues for a Hip King (Camden) $8 Randy Weston - Saga (Gitanes) $6 Randy Weston - Volcano Blues (Gitanes) $8 Randy Weston - Earth Blues (Gitanes)
  11. No problems to Australia - usually takes 5-10 days from europe/UK
  12. pm sent on Furt - Plus Equals - (Psi) 4 Evan Parker/Barry Guy/Paul Lytton + Peter Evans - Scenes in the House of Music - (Clean Feed) 7
  13. thanks for that synopsis ep1str0phy I've never heard this LP before - sounds like it's going to be a revelation just been notified today that my copy is finally on its way (Import CD's) - have been sweating over this for the last few days (OOP that quickly!!!)
  14. Regarding TOCJ's & extra titles - I usually expect that Japanese reissue CD's replicate the original LP - extra titles/alternates etc are uncommon (the recent Mariano/Dodgion Beauties of 1918 TOCJ was an exception - it includes "Vamp's Blues" - JWC only) Yes, it bugs me but these recent TOCJ's sound so good (compared to releases of the late 80's & 90's)

not long ago I commenced a thread regarding the "Reminiscin'" session, suggesting Mosaic make it one of their "singles" but I think the single line has been discontinued AFAIK
  16. Have been listening to the recent TOCJ CD release of this interesting live session in Rio (1961) - Dorham, Fuller, Sims, Cohn, Mann, Ball, Tucker, Bailey, Mantilla, Abdul-Malik in various combinations The original FM issue of "Jazz Committee For Latin American Affairs" contained 6 tracks 1. Red Door 2. Lover Man 3. Ismaaa 4. It's All Right With Me 5. Autumn Leaves 6. Wee Dot The West Wind LP & CD reissues (Hot Stuff From Brazil) also contain 6 titles BUT replace "Lover Man" & "Ismaaa" with "Halley's Comet" & "A Night In Tunisia" Are these new titles that were not released on the original LP or just misnomers for the original titles. Anyone with copy of the WW releases interested in having a listen to confirm?

Interested to know what the source of your Reminiscin' CD is - Japanese? - wasn't aware that this has had a previous digital release
  18. pm sent on Al Cohn & Zoot Sims - You N Me (Verve Master Edition) $9 The Three Sounds - Babe's Blues (Blue Note 1997 cd version) $10 Ted Curson - Plenty of Horn (Prevue) $10 Zoot Sims - Jazz Alive! (Capitol) w/ Al Cohn & Phil Woods $7
  19. WOW John B should win a prize reminds me of the Futurama Episode "Fry & The Slurm Factory"
  20. The coltrane Impulse boxes # 4 & 5 are going for $28.99 (US Amazon) or 18.38 pounds (UK Amazon) - both via the same dealer (NAGIRY) ordered both through UK Amazon (slightly cheaper for me) hope these are legit releases (not Eastern European/Russian counterfeits!!)
  21. Picked up the box in the early 90's - havn't listened to it for years - these are quadraphonic alternate takes & mixes Wooden Ships - quad alt mix (5:55) Volunteers - quad alt take (2:17) We Can Be Together - quad alt take (6:04) Hey Frederick - quad alt take (9:07) - can't comment on differences between JK's solos as I don't have an original quad recording
  22. Received my set yesterday (Euro version) My Disc 2 appears to be faulty It's difficult to load into my computer - keeps rejecting the disc but was eventually able to load it into Itunes Track 2 (Footprints) has quite audible clicking/ticking at 4:10 (lasting about 20 secs) & 6:25 (lasting approx 10 secs) Track 5 (Masqualero) as above @ 5:40 (approx 10 secs) These "anomalies" are most evident when the disc is in the car player - don't think they are part of the recording; nothing mentioned in the liner notes Anyone else had the same problem? Would appreciate someone else having a listen to their disc at those times listed above Will probably have to send the set back for a replacement - usually easy procedure with Amazon UK (have done this before)
  23. Schildkraut CD reached Antipodean shores late last week thanks again
