  1. Is 'Witch Doctor' the Lee Morgan tune? Bertrand.
  2. 'when they made fun of Asia like that, that was hillarious' Asia the rock band or Asia the continent?
  3. 'the 40 yr virgin is the funniest comedy film since the three amigos came out in the late 80s' Talk about damning it with faint praise!
  4. We now know these are officially OOP - we suspected it, but now we have proof. Depressing. Everything that could go badly with the Fantasy sale did. I don't like this all sales are final biz. What about defectives? I'll see how my first order goes before I think of ordering more. I can only listen to so much music in my lifetime. I'm already 43! Bertrand.
  5. Same here. I wasn't even going to think about this order for a while (my friends are in no hurry) - I have enough backlog as it is. Just, when I see that others got e-mails and I didn't, it makes me scratch my head. I got free shipping and didn't do anything about this order since. Eventually, if I didn't get an e-mail soon, I was thinking of calling. But now I'm not sure that's such a good idea. Has anyone here actualy had their shipping changed from zero to non-zero because they called, or is it just those who tried to get the free shipping who did not get it (and who 'spoiled' it for all later orders ). Bertrand.
  6. Wayne Shorter is in Ghent tonight (Rotterdam tomorrow). Bertrand.
  7. I've heard nothing yet - I'll call Monday. I don't have any sort of spam filters (yet my penis is still too small, AND I haven't heard back from my Nigerian friend who cashed my deposit) so that can't explain it. Bertrand.
  8. Did anyone ask the lovely Melinda if everything was in stock? I ordered yesterday (combined it with two friends - went way over $100). Shipping was free, but the coupon didn't work. Why pay $2.98 when you can pay $2.69
  9. Noj, Thanks! 'As an example, careful analysis of Jefferson's solo on the leader's Ellingtonian ballad, "Ballad for D.E.," demonstrates that he uses certain notes from the closing phrase of the preceding trumpet solo in his own opening passage, then carefully plays two choruses using the basic harmonic material of the tune as his springboard, only to end his solo immediately before Thomas begins his drum feature.' I love it! Bertrand.
  10. Please post the parody here so I don't have to read the rest of their crap. If Crouch shows up here, I'm leaving. Bertrand.
  11. I'm going home and will place my order around 9:30 EST. I hope there's still something left. Bertrand.
  12. I'm thinking of getting 20 at $4 each. And it looks like there's a 10% coupon (catalog2006), although I suspect it won't apply. Chuck, how much was shipping for 33 CDs? I can't find any description of the shipping costs. My prediction: expect Concord to dump these at Barnes And Noble by the end of the year, just like they did for Concord titles. After all the years and hard work Terri Hinte put into to the label, this is how it all ends. Very sad. Bertrand.
  13. It's pretty obvious what the fuck is going on. I stocked up on a number of Fantasy Titles over the year, but I need to go through my paper catalog and pick out the last few titles I'm missing. Then I'll see if any of them are on sale for $8 (bargain). I'm too lazy to look right now - how much is shipping? We knew this was coming, but it still hurts. I will miss Fantasy as we knew it. Bertrand.
  14. I bet anyone a gazillion dollars that Crouch's book on Bird will never come out. Bertrand.
  15. Lois Gilbert was married to Cuscuna?!? Bertrand.
  16. Your idea is interesting, although not really new. I'm thinking about the 'pianocktail' from Boris Vian's L'ecume Des Jours... Bertrand.
  17. Why is this tentative? Bertrand.
  18. Drop me a PM with your phone number and I'll call you with everything I know (which is a lot). No one on this board knows this place better than me. Bertrand.
  19. Chuck, I've always wondered about Hank's stay in Chicago. The liner notes to one of the Blue Notes even mention some compositions that Muhal's group would have played. I've never found any copyrights after The Flip, however. Do you remember what type of repertoire they played on those gigs? Standards or Mobley originals? Thanks, Bertrand.
  20. He was a giant. Bertrand.
  21. There's already some speculation on one of the news sites that the government will never recoup any money now. The widow sure gets a good deal out of this. Some friend of his was quoted as saying that the strain of facing the rest of his life in prison when he knows he is innocent was just too much. Give me a fucking break. Didn't know that there was talk of Morris Levy having faked his death. Levy was listed on all previous versions of Lee Morgan's Tom Cat of having written the tune 'Rigor Mortis' (along with Joey Dee and Henry Glover). But the thing they copyrighted was just some primitive arrangement of Chopin's 'Funeral March'. I told MC about this, and it was finally corrected on the RVG (along with the correct spelling, 'Riggarmortes'). Levy also has his name as co-author of Frankie Lymon's 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love'. In the film of the same name, there is a courtroom scene in which the attorney for one of Lymon's three wives is asking Levy how he came about writing this tune with him. He asks him if they sat in a room together and wrote it. It's really hilarious. Bertrand.
  22. The Grant's Tomb question was also used by Groucho Marx on You Bet Your Life to help those who had not gotten any answers right. Did anyone ever see the episode of the show where the contestants were Phyllis Diller and George Bernard Shaw. Surreal! Bertrand.
  23. Asking who is going to remaster the RVGs is like asking who's buried in Grant's Tomb! Bertrand.
  24. I stayed up half the night watching youtube. There's some amazing Zappa shit on there. Bertrand.
  25. I can't get to your link, but I suspect this is a video of the TV show Soul! (broadcast in January 1972, but probably recorded in late '71). If so, the tune is either Merrit's 'Angela' or Mabern's 'I Remember Britt'. Bertrand.
