  1. They have been releasing a whole new series of sets since they took over, reconfiguring Miles and Trane into smaller boxes, releasing the complete Prestige Bebop Stitt, the Complete VV Evans, the Complete Monk/Trane, The Complete Prelude Garland. All are beutifully done, and all except the Miles Quintet box incredibly low priced, list price of $10/CD. Check out their web site. I haven't checked to see if the old Fantasy boxes are still available, since I have what I want of those. I completely forgot about (i.e. ignored) the Stitt box when it came out, but went back to check out what's on it. 75 tracks! Art Blakey, Jo Jones, JJ, a host of others! I'm getting this set!
  2. Hey, I saw a 10-CD box of Charlie Parker from a label called Past Perfect. Anyone know about this? Is it worth getting? It's only $30, so that tells me it's too good to be true. Or is it?
  3. They've done a great job on the prices so far on almost all of their historical sets. The 3 CD sets have had a $30 list price to date (Evans, Stitt) , so should be available for $20-25. And the other sized sets (Coltrane, Monk/Trane. Garland) have also had a $10/disc list price. The only exception I'm aware of is the Miles Quintet box with the newly licensed material on CD4. I think they're really doing a commendable job on their historical reissues so far, much better than we probably had any right to expect. I'm sure you're right. Actually, I meant Concord, not Fantasy - slip of the mind. This will be their first, won't it? MG I believe he was referring to Concord in his post.
  4. Kenny G sold a lot of vinyl as well.
  5. Pity it only goes up to 1953; I wonder how long we'll have to wait to get to the 1954-55 sessions?
  6. PM sent again!
  7. Hey Mark, did you get my PM? I want this baby!
  8. Aw HECK yeah!!!
  9. Also, what is up with the Giants? That was one helluva meltdown in the fourth quarter against the lowly Titans. Vince Young showed why us Longhorns fans were so sad to see him go last year. Man, if anyone'd told me the Cows would be in first after the Thanksgiving holiday, I'd still be laughing. Next week's contest between these two teams oughta be VERRRRRRRY interesting!
  10. I think I can agree with that.
  11. Oh Chronic Tree
  12. Same as last year with one happy addition: I finally got around to burning my mom's old Christmas albums to CD! Bring on the happy memories!!!
  13. As a Bears fan, I'm naturally biased, but I have to disagree nonetheless: this was a TERRIBLE game. Nine turnovers??? That's pathetic. I agree: bring in Griese. Grossman's starting to look like Bledsoe out there. And who decided to call for a long pass on first down with less than two minutes to go? Geez, make some short passes and get outta bounds! How simple is that? Nope, the Bears deserved to lose today. Just sickening!
  14. Agree completely!!!! Excellent picture!
  15. PM sent re: Adderley/Jackson K2
  16. Walk THIS way! Still working on that hump... er, what I meant was..... oops!
  17. Attic inspector..... (One of many MANY inside jokes between me & Jim) Golf instructor, pest control man, sandwich maker, (comedy) writer... At least he's not a bastbird!
  18. Racism, thy username is rainyday.
  19. Attic inspector..... (One of many MANY inside jokes between me & Jim)
  20. That reminds me: has anyone seen Albertson lately?
  21. Wow, ELP ripping someone off..... how surprising....
  22. Funny you mention Cannonball, because he was one of the first artists I got into when I first started listening to jazz. I think you made an excellent point about the subsequent players; as I've been listening to Bird lately, that is precisely the feeling I've been encountering: how do I get excited about this when I've heard others do it, not as well, but close? Besides, it doesn't help that I'm not that big a fan of the alto sax to begin with (McLean notwithstanding!).
  23. You got THAT right. Today's paper compares Romo to Aikman and Staubach, saying that Aikman once threw five TD passes, but that he needed OT to get that fifth one; Staubach never threw five in one game. Time will tell, but this kid's been solid since the first minute.
  24. Maybe you're on to something: never been that big a fan of bebop in general, now that you mention it. No Dizzy in my collection, f'rinstance. Believe me, I "get" why folks dig Parker and completely understand what the fuss is about. Maybe I should lock myself in a room with some Bird!
