  1. I'm just waiting for Cuban to come back with: Your star shouldn't keep resorting to jumpers that never fall!
  2. At least someone said it. Needs to be said more often.

    Les Spann

In the Julius Watkins thread, fasstrack mentioned he knew Les Spann. Spann is one of my favorite guitarists, and I wish he'd recorded more often! Here's a list of what I have that Spann is on: BEN WEBSTER AND ASSOCIATES BACK TO BACK - Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges JOHNNY HODGES MOSAIC (the sessions for SIDE BY SIDE and A SMOOTH ONE) Any other recommendations? Any stories, fasstrack?
  4. Just stumbled over a CD I bought the same summer as the other three in my first post: Artie Shaw - BEGIN THE BEGUINE (Bluebird) Liner notes by Chris Albertson, which I guess this also means that of the few jazz writings in my collection, I've had Albertson's the longest!
  5. My sentiments exactly.
  6. Wow, thanks Lon! Did you have that saved somewhere on your computer, or is there someplace I could've looked myself? In either case, I'm grateful you took the time to do that!
  7. Jim, I hope you print that out and frame it for Brenda! Heck, I may just use that for my next anniversary, that was freakin' BEAUTIFUL!
  8. Anyone have the discography on the Jacquet?
  9. Saw it over the weekend. It's pretty good, maybe not worth shelling out $8 to see on the big screen, but definitely worth renting on DVD. Spacey as Luthor was inspired. Made me forget all about Gene Hackman, not an easy thing to do! Trivia time: The kid that played Lois/Superman's son is a distant relative, found out from my mother-in-law. It's almost a Spaceballs moment: "I am your father's father's half-sister's daughter's husband!*" "So, what does that make us?" "Nothing!" (*what does that make us, anyhow? Third cousins? Twice removed??????)
  10. Nah, you weren't a blowhard, I know. Just a couple guys talkin' trash is all!
  11. Mine's 10, and I still do that at night!
  12. Eh, that's cool. I was just reacting to you saying that Dallas was a crybaby team and a dirty team. I don't think they are any more or any less of a dirty team than anyone else in the league. And again, I believe that in the end, the only real crying and whining came more from the media, the fans (me included), and ESPECIALLY Cuban. Not nearly so much the players. That said, there was this interesting item in today's paper:
  13. Man, that had to hurt: being up 7-0 going into the bottom of the 8th and then losing that way..... OUCH!
  14. Congratulations, Chuck and Ann! Wow, 43 years.... you two have been married longer for than I've been alive!!! SWEEEEEET!!!!
  15. If she can't, there are plenty of ready-made "pumps" walking the floor available.....
  16. Egad! Rangers swept by the Giants, and currently in the middle of a five-game losing streak! Looks like the June swoon has begun its annual descent! And just when I was getting over the Mavs losing!
  17. Aw man..... :( My prayers are with him & his family.
  18. Whatta show it was, too! And what a treat it was to meet Greg! I'm gonna post more tomorrow cuz I'm pretty beat, but suffice to say it was a very nice show and I'm looking forward to attending more DJO concerts!
  19. Ouch. I kinda hope the K2 also has the mono master, at least if the Riverside Records Story box is any indication. This compilation has both versions of "Ruby My Dear:" the Trane version is mono and sounds warm and inviting; the Hawk version is stereo and is harsh and brittle (and like Chuck says, can't hardly hear the bass). I think I may just seek out the K2's after all.
  20. Hellloooo........ anyone?
  21. Is the K2 of Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane also from the mono masters, like Monk's Music?
  22. A letter to the editor in today's FW Star Telegram, regarding the wildly unfunny "comic" strip Mallard Fillmore: And now for that very story the writer referenced, from the 6/4/06 edition of News of the Weird:
  23. Before or after the cd of Styx tunes? Don't worry, Chuck. That one will see the light of day soon, with full credits to you as producer and "conceptualizer". But who's the "decider"? Oh, that one's easy: Big Aldo (Bossa) Nova! Actually, come to think of it, that would be the perfect title right there: Big Aldo Bossa Nova!
  24. I think I may hurl.....
  25. The fight's begun, they've been released Killing foe for peace Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! And they've given me a wonderful potion cuz I cannot contain my emotion! And even tho' I'm feeling good, something tells me I'd better activate my prayer capsule! (from Supper's Ready)
