Yes, Trane steals the show on the tracks on which he appears. No matter: Hank more than holds his own among the big names, and I put this album on a par with Hank's Blue Note albums from the same era.

Track 4: Miles Davis - My Funny Valentine (from COOKIN') Track 5: Why Was I Born - Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane (from their s/t album) Track 11: Round About Midnight - Thelonious Monk (from THELONIOUS HIMSELF) Yeah, now that I see that most of the track have been ID'd, it would seem that the compiler is a Concord fan! As for "The Peacocks," I'm assuming Jim R has this one because a) the Breakstone disc came out in 2009 and this compilation was made in 2005 and b) when it comes to guitar anything, I generally defer to Jim R, and because c) Jim R's name is also Al, although it's a well-kept secret. Thanks to everyone! I'm starting to think asking for this might not've been such a good idea, financially speaking.

FWIW, I really dig the way Hank rides the groove on a lot of his solos from the Blackhawk discs. Obviously not what Miles was looking for, but groovy nonetheless!

"From This Moment On" played by John Jenkins and Kenny Burrell on their self-titled Blue Note album. Jenkins playing the melody line has been stumbling around my brain for the last day, completely unidentified, until a few minutes ago when I started searching for it on Rhapsody. And, of course, it's from a CD I no longer own. Meanwhile, hundreds of CDs sit on my shelf collecting dust. {{{sigh}}}

Clayton Cameron was the drummer for the Ralph Sharon Trio for awhile, when they were backing Tony Bennett in the 90's. Got to see him with Bennett in '96. Helluva show, helluva drummer. Did a fantastic drum solo using nothing but brushes on a snare.

We just recently got this album in our house and it's proven to be something of a catalyst for history for my teenage son. Plus it's just damn funny! Gotta spin it later to throw out some favorite quotes, but as Lady Bird says, "That's alraght!"
