I'm not sure I understand that comment. It would make more sense to me if a term such as "elite" or 'upper tier" or somesuch was insterted before the word "teams". Scott mentioned that loss to the Germans for obvious reasons, I think. It's not simply that we lost by only one goal to a traditional powerhouse. Most observers seemed to think that the US outplayed the Germans in that match- and of course we are referring here to a rather important and pressure-packed match. In assessing any national team, shouldn't we take such things into account? At any rate, we lost, and we only deserve what we've earned, but I don't think we have to rely solely on such stories to illustrate our pedigree- it's just part of the overall picture. Scott posted: Red responded: Maybe I'm the one who's confused, but I thought Scott's comment was directed at Kenny. Anyway, I agree with your comments regarding a lot of teams (even some very good teams) being beatable. After all, this whole thing (despite the long rigors of qualifying in the first place, and the challenge of advancing out of the first round) really comes down to how well a team plays over a short stretch or on a given day (after the first round is over). The "best team" won't always win, and it's not like our perceptions of who the "best" teams are can really be established in a generalized sense anyway, as they would be in (for example) a best of 7 series in baseball or basketball.

I'm another lucky one who has a wife that's able and willing to do it. If she quits, I'll just switch to a buzz cut and do it myself... or something (would never attempt a "butch", though).

Well, I tried that already. I don't rake obsessively, though... in fact, I didn't want to admit it, but... we have a gardener So, I don't have to rake as often as I used to. Besides, every time I go out to rake, I cause a sudden change in the weather. Wind gusts of 45mph ensue within minutes. Same is true after I clear out the rain gutters.

I would have thought 1960. Maybe the 1987 date is referring to "Another Workout"?

I have yet to see Robert Cray, but he is indeed one of my favorite contemporary blues/soul/r&b artists. Another who has inspired me as of late is Chris Cain. Anyhow, I am jealous. Must watch for Cray in my neck o' the woods. Sounds like a good time. g ← I went shopping at one of my favorite local used CD shops a few months ago, and when I walked in I noticed that there was some equipment being set up in a corner for a live performance (kind of a surprise, because it's a small shop, I've been shopping there for years, and this was the first time I'd seen that at this place). So, I'm shopping around the store, and before long I begin to hear the live music- one guy playing guitar and singing. A handful of people had gathered in front of the makeshift stage, so I couldn't see who was playing, but before long I recognized the sound as that of Chris Cain. He must be friends with the manager or something, because this was not exactly the kind of gig he deserves. I hardly recognized him- I actually hadn't seen him live since the late 1970's. BTW, I've never heard a Robert Cray LP or CD that lived up to his abilities as a live performer, or even really represented him well in terms of his "real" self. All the commercially released stuff just sounds watered down to me. Saw him first in 1978, when he was tearing it up all over the west coast. Haven't seen him for a few years- good to know he's still got some fire in a live setting.

We have an abundance of trees (which I'm thankful for) in our neighborhood, and although the only trees in front of our house at present are two saplings that we planted withing the last few years, both of our adjacent neighbors have large trees that drop a lot of leaves into our yard and onto our roof and gutters. It has never once occured to me that this is something that I could or should complain about, and I've never heard about any of the people in this neighborhood complaining about a tree for this reason. Who do these people complain to when a heavy rain leaves puddles on their patios? Mind boggling. Personally, I enjoy raking and sweeping leaves, and we have a weekly street pickup program (no plastic bags) for all types of yard waste. I can still enjoy the look and the smell of leaves on the ground for most of the fall season anyway, because as soon as I get them raked up and walk back into the house, I look out and see that the ground is covered with them again. Okay, that's a slight exaggeration.

You used a PEN?? Man, you are one confident guy! I used a word processor, because I knew I'd change my mind about 17 times, rearrange the order over and over... and besides, I can't read my own handwriting anymore.

When a person puts together a BFT, surely they take note of what it was they included ("basic track data") on the recording. I mean, from the get-go. Otherwise, they themselves might forget what material was included in the test! Now, unless the compiler did this with pencil and paper instead of a word processor, what possible reason is there not to have the info available and handy with a few clicks of a mouse? Add to this the fact that even the initial posts in this thread (which came along some time after everybody was wondering what happened to the answers) and the related apologies are now over 3 months old. Ridiculous.

JK, have you checked out much of the 70's stuff by The Crusaders? I'm not sure how much of it is currently available on CD, but I've seen SOUTHERN COMFORT (which was a twofer LP) around... this was the era when Larry Carlton was with them. Another great one (live) is SCRATCH. Joe Sample plays his butt off. How about Brian Auger (Oblivion Express)?

I layed out on #25, but it's impossible not to be aware of this ongoing saga. What I don't understand is, why can't at least the basic answers (song titles, performers, CD/LP titles) be assembled and posted? They could always be amended with further additions such as cover scans, recording dates, comments, etc. Just a thought...
