  1. What is impact of playing a stereo CD with amp mono button pushed?
  2. What is the effect of playing a stereo LP with the mono button pushed?
  3. This is a problem faced by many of us older jazz collectors with no obvious way to pass on our collection. The logistics of selling individual CDs or LPs online such as eBay are overwhelming. First making the listing and then packaging and mailing each individual CD or LP is tedious and time consuming. Box sets in excellent condition such as Mosaic are sold routinely on eBay for a good price and are worth the effort to list and mail them. Finding a store or college to take the whole collection is difficult and becoming harder each day as streaming music is overcoming owning physical collections. Anything in your collection on CDRs is worthless, even though they may be of rare live performances never released on CD or LP. The ideal solution if you are not interested in monetizing most of your collection is to find a younger fellow collector interested in acquiring same. Your collection should be listed on some type of spreadsheet such as excel to let him/her know of the magnitude and contents of the collection. How to find this person is difficult. One possibility is via Organissimo. Another is to attend a local record show where many dealers attend and one might be interested. The logistics of moving a large collection mean that the person should live fairly closely to you. For example moving a large collection from Florida to California would be difficult and expensive. This is a dilemma that should be resolved so you do not leave a wife or relatives with this situation and no solution. You certainly do not want your collection to go to a Goodwill store.
  4. Gerry Mulligan 1951 "Mulligan's Too" is a seventeen minute baritone sax wonder.
  5. The photo of the session seems to be reversed from the music.
  6. The Complete Crazy Sunday at the Lighthouse. 6-CD set of Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars in 1953 released by the Los Angeles Jazz Institute in 2023.
  7. The Audiolab LP has 3 tracks on the Federal 10-in LP. "Bull Fighter", "Theme" and "Since We Said Goodbye".
  8. The Jazz Factory CD also has 8 tracks from the Audiolab LP AL1538 recorded in LA in early 1954.
  9. That is my problem- uploading from my computer. I will try using IMGUR. Thanx.
  10. I tried JPEG and PDF files and both were rejected as being too large.
  11. Live in Antibes, France. CD on Kipepeo label. This not the 23 July 1967 session that has been released on the Domino Records label.
  12. My all-time favorite occurred when Dave Brubeck was playing "For All We Know" live at the 1958 Monterey Jazz Festival. Midway in the song a plane took off from a nearby airport and was clearly heard at the festival. Brubeck immediately segued into "Off We Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder".
  13. Good question. Releasing two versions would not be economic so the most popular version was released.
  14. Looking forward to acquiring the CD!
  15. Sad story. Very good advice!
  16. Speaking of Woody's "Jackpot" Dave Brubeck Quartet also had a "Jackpot" LP recorded in the Las Vegas Tropicana Hotel in 1967.
  17. The soundtrack for "Vanishing Point" is excellent. So is the movie!
  18. Was recorded on October 9, 1957. Blue Note released it thereafter.
  19. Jack Chambers biography of Dick Twardzik "Bouncin' With Bartok" is a masterpiece!
  20. Dave Brubeck banged away but what a great improvisor.
  21. I would not call Ted Gioia's book stodgy, if you are referring to his "West Coast Jazz" classic. IMHO this is the best book written on the subject. I have re-read it several times and refer to it frequently.
  22. Another TV show "Frankly Jazz". The "Stars of Jazz" TV series was documented in an excellent book by James A. Harrod. There were 130 broadcasts. Extracts from many shows were released on 36 Calliope label LPs.
  23. Not exactly on topic but the Jubilee LP has been issued on CD.
