  1. Not a lot of action, but the suspense is palpable.
  2. You should check out the Record Store Day website.
  3. I'm confused. Your say your comment was deleted (in fact, "They've all been deleted") and yet you're able to quote their response verbatim. What am I missing?
  4. Would you please post your original comments? It's difficult to understand their response if we don't see what they're responding to.
  5. Nah, you're thinking of her brother, Memory. George Lane was Penny's husband.
  6. Participation in jazz correlates strongly with education and income. Nearly half of those attending jazz performances, for example, are college graduates; over three-quarters have had some college education. Those earning more than $50,000 a year (≈ $98,700 in 2024) are more than twice as likely to attend performances as those earning less than $25,000 (≈ $50,320 in 2024). In this respect, the audience profile for jazz resembles that of the other benchmark arts activities, for which the highest rates of participation are found among the most affluent and highly educated. “Jazz in America: Who's Listening?” National Endowment for the Art, 1995 Jazz audiences are predominantly affluent, well educated, young, and ethnically diverse. “A Literature Review of Research on Jazz Audience” Jazz Arts Group, 2010

  10. I'm not here to change anyone's mind, but I rather like the original composition. It's the orchestrations of the piece that I dislike. Grofé orchestrated it from Gershwin’s solo piano version shortly before it's 1924 premiere. In addition to the original solo piano arrangement, Gershwin made a 2-piano version that included parts left out of the solo arrangement. In 1926, Grofé orchestrated it for a larger orchestra. Grofé would orchestrate it again for full orchestra in 1942. This is the version used on most recordings over the next 30+ years. In 1976, Michael Tilson Thomas reintroduced the original jazz band version. You can get a sense of Gershwin's original idea from this recording of piano rolls: Here's an example of Gershwin's 2-piano arrangement: And MTT's modern recording of the original jazz band version: I enjoy most the piano versions (solo and duo), and to a lesser degree the original jazz band arrangement under the direction of MTT.
