  1. Hi-res digital download. I suppose the vinyl might sound "warmer"?
  2. Is this really an appropriate conversation to be having at a birthday party? Here's a possum head sammich and some cole slaw. Go grab yourself a beer while I put on a Sweet Papa Lou record, something with natural soul.
  3. There's quite a difference between the sound of this reissue and my DCC gold CD. I suck at adjectives, but I'm going to say louder, brighter, wider and more revealing. Possibly too much? I'll be interested in hearing other people's impressions.
  4. What about a compilation like this: Featuring Jimmy Forrest, Teddy Brannon, Tab Smith, Jimmy Coe, Fred Jackson, Chris Woods, Fats Noel and more. Streaming available on multiple platforms.
  5. He played the bass clarinet with such skill and beauty. Thank you, Michel, for sharing that beauty with us.
  6. Says the guy who invokes his wife name when the subject of P.O.L. comes up? Oh, you thought I was talking about Joanne? No, no my good friend. This is all you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ One of my favorite new-wave pop albums from the early 80s.
  7. That's funny. When I think about you, I think "pissed off [old] lady". 🤪
  8. Happy Ham Sammich Birthday, Sweet Papa Lou!
  9. I posted #5 just for you, Dan.
  10. Sorry for your loss, TTK. I have two 17-year-olds with health issues (Sonny and Max). I try to show how much I love them every day.
  11. I prefer Don Martin's Beatles over this new version.
  12. So I checked it out and found this on the CUNY website: "the Chancellor of CUNY designated Italian Americans as a protected group in 1976 and CUNY prepares a separate Italian American affirmative action plan." It's still active: 2022-2023 Central Office Affirmative Action Plan: Italian Americans. Now I've got to tell my brother.
  13. Thanks a lot. I learn a lot of interesting things from my brother, too.
  14. I searched and searched but couldn't come up with any information to substantiate this claim. Would you please direct me to the right place? My Dad grew up in "The Point", an Italian-Black neighborhood in Newport, RI. He used to joke that he was the first "person of color" to become a member of the Newport Country (Golf) Club.
  15. I didn't know he was a musician.
  16. For Mac folks, I recommend X Lossless Decoder (XLD) that allows you to decode/convert/play various 'lossless' audio files (FLAC is my favorite).
  17. My all-time favorite: some other good ones:
  18. Hey kids, is it Bandcamp Friday yet? Support your favorite artists. This has been the case for years. While you can purchase and download in flac, wav, etc., the same files stream at 128kbps, the same bitrate typically used for streaming music on high-end platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify.
  19. As Eric posted, "Maximum Swing: The Unissued 1965 Half Note Recordings is the first official release of the complete previously unissued recordings from jazz guitar giant Wes Montgomery with the Wynton Kelly Trio at the famed Half Note jazz club... I believe tranemonk is correct. Some tracks have been previously issued, albeit not authorized. "Maximum Swing" contains all of the radio broadcasts in one authorized release. Based on Resonance's track record and the quality of the bandcamp track "Four On Six", I think this will be a very enjoyable album, especially for us Wes-heads. CD Track Listing: CD 1 (Sept. 24, 1965) 1. Laura (6:57) 2. Cariba (8:47 3. Blues (3:19 * Paul Chambers, bass (Nov. 5, 1965) 4. Impressions (6:04) 5. Mi Cosa (3:33) 6. No Blues (5:39) * Ron Carter, bass (Nov. 12, 1965) 7. Birks’ Works (5:56) 8. Four On Six (8:25) 9. The Theme (1:34) * Larry Ridley, bass CD 2 (Nov. 19, 1965) 1. All The Things You Are 2. I Remember You (7:11) 3. No Blues (2:44) * Herman Wright, bass (Late 1965) 4. Cherokee (10:39) 5. The Song Is You (16:18) 6. Four On Six (10:45) 7. Star Eyes (15:31) 8. Oh, You Crazy Moon (4:27) * Larry Ridley, bass Wes Montgomery – guitar Wynton Kelly – piano Jimmy Cobb – drums *Bass players are identified for each set Recorded at the Half Note jazz club in New York, NY in 1965
  20. And here I was thinking this thread was about Japanese sex toys. 😉
  21. Respectfully, I disagree. True, almost all of this music has been issued previously, but it was spread over three releases, two of which are long-deleted. Also, we have the opportunity to hear the title track as it was performed, not an edit with a different solo. As to the question of sound quality, why should we assume it would be lesser than what we've already heard, which is very good, imo.
