  1. True, but it was also used for some CD reissues in the late 80s, like the one Kevin owns.
  2. Pithecanthropus Erectus was reissued in 1990 on CD in Europe (Atlantic 7567-81456-2). It likely features the same mastering as your 1987 domestic release. Personally, I like the 2011 Japanese SACD (WPGR-10003) better.

    Vinny Golia

There are quite a few recordings featuring Golia on Spotify. One of my favorites is Regards From Nora Desmond, a 1986 recording with Golia on baritone sax, John Fumo on trumpet, Wayne Peet on piano, Ken Filiano on bass and Alex Cline on drums. Issued in 2004 on Fresh Sound New Talent (FSNT-008), it's more "straight ahead" than many of his other releases.
  4. The Prince estate will stream the musician’s full December 31st, 1987 concert at Paisley Park Thursday, September 24th, at 8 p.m. ET on the Prince YouTube page...Toward the end of the concert, jazz legend Miles Davis made a cameo that marked his only onstage collaboration with Prince.
  5. Listening to the samples on allmusic. This is great stuff!
  6. A truly remarkable woman. RIP to the notorious RBG. NBC obit.
  7. And that makes the streaming-to-sold figures more conservative, do they not?
  8. Sorry PVC fans, but all this report shows is that CD sales continue to decline to the point where they may be eclipsed by vinyl, which itself accounts for only a small fraction of music consumption. Streaming accounts for 78 percent of music consumption in the U.S. compared to physical and digital music sales.
  9. I'm more inclined to believe the report of a hoax is, in fact, the real hoax. The article you linked is published by Mediamass, a parody news site. The second clue? The author of the piece is Jessica Simpson?!?
  10. a stupid thread is getting stupider.
  11. Thanks Larry for reminding me of this excellent date. Both volumes of Philly Gumbo are available to stream on Spotify. Search under album title because the artist is listed as "Various Artists".
  12. Thank you, Mr. Persip. Two of my favorites:
  13. We're not talking about another reissue, or a quartet recording of jazz standards. It's the culmination of a years-long effort by a large cast of impeccable musicians to create an original and lasting piece of art. Purchasing this set also helps insure that Maria can continue to compose, arrange and conduct music that makes a difference to some of us. As someone who contributed more than the minimum to make this project possible, I have no regrets and will continue to support Maria every chance I get.

  15. My guess is neither. The back of the LP says, "Manufactured under license by Uptown Records by Premium Cool Records." It's a limited vinyl-only release to mark RSD 2020.
  16. Larry Coryell comes to mind.
  17. Stop beating around the bush, Kev, and tell us how you really feel.
  18. Singer Trini Lopez, who enjoyed a heyday in the 1960s with hits including “If I Had a Hammer,” “This Land Is Your Land” and "Lemon Tree" died Tuesday from complications related to coronavirus, collaborators said. He was 83. Lopez had been in and out of a hospital setting for about six weeks before dying about 5 a.m. at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, said songwriting partner Joe Chavira. obit
  19. Florida sheriff orders deputies not to wear masks, bans civilians in masks from office "We can debate and argue all day of why and why not. The fact is, the amount of professionals that give the reason why we should [wear masks], I can find the exact same amount of professionals that say why we shouldn’t....In light of the current events when it comes to the sentiment and/or hatred toward law enforcement in our country today, this is being done to ensure there is clear communication and for identification purposes of any individual walking into a lobby," Sheriff Woods wrote.
  20. I got to see Claire perform with Forrester at the Cornelia St. Cafe several years ago. Great music, and she was very friendly. I'll definitely get this disc from her, as well as the Motown tribute from a few years ago.
