  1. Excellent bass player. I really love those Vince Guaraldi Trio albums, and Eddie Duran's, that he plays on. R.I.P.
  2. R.I.P. IIRC it was him and bassist Keeter Betts turning Charlie Byrd to playing Brazilian music. A real pioneer in that respect.
  3. Received a CD on Saturday ordered directly from a British label, sent with free shipping. Arrived here within a week. https://www.resonusclassics.com/gabriel-faure-works-for-violin-piano-jane-gordon-jan-rautio-res10275
  4. This afternoon: Absolutely beautiful! https://www.resonusclassics.com/gabriel-faure-works-for-violin-piano-jane-gordon-jan-rautio-res10275
  5. Zoller was much better known in Germany than Friedman. Or he talked Brunner-Schwer into handling it like this.
  6. Lover left corner, Herbie Mann. In the middle, besides the girl with the straw hat, Sonny and Linda Sharrock. Top left, Roy Ayers. But who's the guy holding his arm? And who is the guy on the low right? And who are the guys behind Ayers' arm, and the women, if any musicians are among them?
  7. This afternoon: An underrated album, IMHO.
  8. Indeed! I am grateful we live in a time (how long will it last?) where we can enjoy such great historical music in such good audio quality. I took me a lifetime of lovin jazz to learn to appreciate and enjoy this music. Now I hear how close the 1920's jazz was to ragtime and other styles from earlier decades. It's a shame black artists weren't recorded more often due to racist attitudes. Now playing, as ealier today, some from Mosaic's James P. Johnson set, which is just as great:
  9. Duh! That would have spared me buying the box set .....
  10. Just saw a British seller on discogs charging £ 150.00 (no kidding!) for a shipment on one CD to Europe.
  11. Bill Summers reported on his facebook page: "Bass player Paul Jackson my brother and band mate in the Headhunters passed this morning. One of the greatest musicians that ever lived. I am floored by his death. I want all you guys to know that Paul would not want tears instead he would want a huge party with his favorite musician friends. We will let you guys know when we get it organized. Let’s send him away correctly." Paul Jackson was the bass player on Herbie Hancock's famous Headhunters album. He and Bill Summers and Mike Clark continued the band whenever possible. He was one of the foremost funk bass players of his time. R.I.P.

  15. Looking at the last post, I see another proof that great minds follow the same inspiration:
  16. No idea about the supplementary material. Wayne told me they have several live recordings not listed anywhere. Btw she sang on a Nick Esposito session where Cal Tjader played bongos. That was why Wayne contacted me. She appeared as Dottie Grae on that session, before she married Jerry Dodgion.
  17. Here`s what Wayne answered: Hi, Mike, Thanks for letting me know about the question. Duke Pearson is mentioned but not talked about. Dottie mentions how working with Mary Osborne was "sublime", and she is mentioned as part of certain groups, but no discussion beyond that. In the supplementary materials there are three recordings that include Mary Osborne. I hope that answers the questions from the forum member. Best, Wayne
