  1. Both are first US CD editions of these albums. I think they sound good.
  2. Just pulled Una Mas and Page One (first generation US Blue Note CDs) from the shelves - they sound good enough for me. I'm a bigger Mobley than Henderson fan, that's why I got the Mobley on last chance, but with my hearing deficiency in the high frequency range (caused by age and a ball hitting my left ear a few years ago) it isn't really that much of a difference.
  3. That was recorded while the Quiny Jones Orchestra performed in Belgrade.
  4. Indeed! A nightmare, considering the many 45's Babs released on several self-maintained short lived labels.
  5. I had the honour and pleasure of playing a jam session with that band in a Frankfurt club after their concert. One of my drum buddies brought his Brazilian percussion teacher along, and he simply took the whole bunch to the club where Brazilian pianist Izio Gross was in the house band. He and Hermeto played some thrilling four hand piano on Caravan, Tico Tico and the like. Hermeto was so nice ..... I will never forget that night.
  6. Earlier this afternoon, more music from 18th cdentury Berlin composers: The latter is absolutely fantastic, enchanting music that I seriously recommend. J.S. Bach sent his eldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann, to study with Graun. The harpsichord and viola sonata played here could even be a cooperative effort of the two. Before these two, some Albinoni, who actually was a greater influence on Bach than Vivaldi. Excellent playing here, although the harpsichord is a bit too much in the background. This is almost oop, the label has only nine copies left: http://encelade.net/index.php/en/hikashop-menu-for-products-listing-2/product/5-albinoni-violin-sonatas
  7. I really like this singer more and more. This is no ordinary bluesman. His band is jazzy, swings with a good groove, he has plenty of expressive capacities and vocal stylings at his disposal, and plays a nice guitar.
  8. These tracks from sideman dates that Henderson composed to me look like a filler. (A very good filler, of course.) Without them, At least half of a CDs's playing time would have been wasted. The concept looks like that of the MJQ box, where all the alternates where added to one disc that was only partly filled. AFA Basra is concerned, maybe the problems that arose when the Connoisseur CD was planned are still reason enough to keep their hands off this one.
  9. Getting to the last discs of the Wilson box today:
  10. True, but used copies are not that hard to find. The Fresh Sound and Avid etc. reissues have several overlaps.
  11. Sorry ...... I looked it up: there were seven or eight Blue Note albums with Art Farmer.

  13. This was my brunch music today. Excellent performance of beautiful music. Every serious lover of violin music should have this. Inspired by this item that I received and played yesterday. To me , the Benda brothers were very good composers on a level with the Bach sons. Sturm & Drang attitudes in the fast movements, and slow movememts that moved Nend's listeners to tears, as was reported.
