  1. Turns out I do have the Savoy LP with Kenny Clarke and Hank Jones - will listen tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendations.
  2. Geez, I thought I had his Savoys ... anything else out on CD that is recommended (I have the Mingus he plays on)?
  3. The Mediafire link you sent works perfectly, thanks, will take it with me on vacation and post after our return.
  4. Can't help it, like 'em all - but what JSngry and others said about the Paris date is very much to the point ... Seems I changed my mind, impossible to make a choice in my current state of mind, which is not about choosing or judging.
  5. Weren't we just recently reminiscing about those still alive that had encounterd Bird? Well, here's one. Great Player - this is a coda I wish I wouldn't have to listen to, though. But: according to AMG he was born May 16, 1922 in Yonkers, NY - 90 years of a great musical life, what more can you ask for ... R.I.P.
  6. I recogniz ed Ahmed Abdul-Malik and The Great Jazz Trio right away, but had no time to post any comments due to the final stages of the Cal Tjader book I write the disco for ... I'm sorry, 'cause this was a real nice compilation.
  7. If I get the link before I leave town for vacation on Monday morning, I'm in ...
  8. What a band .......
  9. C'mon guys - you'll be gettin' ear candy!
  10. Very nice! That drummer's got taste - he has one of those ancient thin crash cymbals almost sounding like a China, and hits it only once, to great effect.
  11. seeline's recommendations are pretty exhaustive - mine would be a Spanish brand, but as you are in the USA ... Pepote
  12. Get Joe Wilder's Savoy album.
  13. Yes, Roker. But who's that pretty woman holding the cabaza? A flutist, obviously ...
  14. That's a nice one, with Marshall Allen and Pat Patrick on saxes.

    Grady Tate

Will do! I had the opportunity to hear and see Tate live only once, in an all star package where he backed Jimmy Smith - Kenny Burrell, Frank Foster and Jon Faddis were in the band. Grady was very relaxed an alert at the same time, and played a very nice free style solo with his bare hands. Ed Thigpen, who played in another band that same evening, sounded uninspired by comparison.
  19. That's a Don Patterson tune, right? From one of the late Muse albums ... that guitar player really is a young lion. Very much looking forward to this.

    Grady Tate

Yes, that's the one. There is a drum clinic videotape where Purdie claims this lick. So Tate is on Crying Song ... back then I didn't like this album. Maybe I should re-listen.
  21. I went for the 30$ option. Can't wait to hear it.
  22. Yeah! Sounds great!
