  1. You're welcome! It's a nice and rather emotional album. About the state of the art at the time it was released.
  2. It is still available according to the label's website: Sunnyside Records - Uncovered Heart It's $ 12.95 plus shipping - I couldn't offer you my copy at much less. The last line of the musician credits: "John Riley - drums, cafe, percussion" sounds nice, but is nonsense, it should read: "John Riley - drums Café - percussion"
  3. Looks interesting - what label is this on?
  4. I'm afraid you're right, but I'm still glad he did what he did.
  5. No matter how one looks at Keepnews uncureable tendency for self-promotion, I'm grateful for the records he produced - we would be a lot poorer without them. We're all only human - I guess as a record producer you got to have some personality trait of that kind to survive in the business.
  6. Many Japanese CD reissues are printed only in the quantity ordered in advance.
  7. Listened to the samples from this, too - not much of a difference. I might skip this against my statement above - the first album had more of a band feel to it. This sound more constructed - the danger of the mix approach.
  8. hmmm ....... the sound samples don't thrill me much - disco fodder.
  9. george russell ezz thetics If you click on the George Russell on the Concord site you get the new Keepnews Collection offered at $ 11.98, while the list of other releases by that artist on the side shows the OJC CD reissue at the same price, reduced to $ 8.98 - now what do they expect you to buy? Okay, you pay 3 $ for two bonus tracks and remastering .....
  10. I took a closer look at some: The Kenny Burrell All Day Long & All Night Long reissues the two LPs straight - the OJC CDs had two long bonus tracks. The Pre-Rahsaan is the recently RVG'd Funk Underneath plus the Jaki Byard Experience still available as OJC. The Getz/Tjader I still have on LP: The collaboration Fantasy LP which is out as a superior sounding SACD, and several leftovers from Getz early Prestige sessions. If I go on I might go wild: What are they thinking? Or rather, the same confusion as in Universal's jazz reissue department. Oh my God!!! Not to think about what tapes they use for the remastering ..... All of these have been available in some form, some in better compilations, few in worse, but this looks like trying to take it all back to the time when Fantasy entered its first path of glory as a jazz reissue label. That's not the way to do it, gentlemen!
  11. Those twofers were a mixed bag. Some were straight releases of two complete albums, in a few cases with bonus tracks, some were compilations with the effect you had no session complete. Some, like the Wes Montgomery Pretty Blue, were even weirder: one straight LP plus bonus tracks (the strings album) plus the ballad type selections from all organ LPs. (Keepnews even had exchanged one master take from the Bags meets Wes LP when he prepared the twofer LP ....). This only shows that the people now in charge don't really know what they have and pick old master tapes by rather doubtful criteria. I will get the Clark Terry as this is the one I don't have. At least Keepnews knows his stuff, although he has taken some weird decissions over the years when preparing reissues.
  12. Oh well ..... the good life has its price. R.I.P., big man with the big voice.
  13. I hate to restrict people and know how hard it is to limit oneself to one disc, but I must admit that I had a hard time recently digesting two discs - one I can thoroughly comment on, two is hard on my current schedule. I vote for one. PM to follow.
  14. Just found out they changed the Maupin cover art : I found the collage so charming .....
  15. Fairly high prices? I got this one from Newbury Comics via ebay for less than two bucks!
  16. Use trial and error to find out which cable leads to which speaker. Good luck!
  17. Basically, you just have to connect these speakers to the respective speaker outlets of your amplifier, given all the other components (including the TV) are plugged into the amp.
  18. No - master DJ in jazz hell! :
  19. It's just that the thread title is wrong: It should read "in front of" instead of "at the Village Vanguard" - you should know how easily some members are mislead!
  20. That' how the music has changed over the years: Once it was all about visions, now it's all about money. I'm not surprised, not in the least. Considering that the major entertainment companies all are only after the money, too, it's only logical to go where you get the best deal. The majors are no longer record companies, in case you didn't notice.
  21. Well, it's an opportunity to use the programming function ...... It took me a while to come to terms with "Jade", but if you take it as a Schifrin album with Cal as main soloist it's rather nice. "Breeze", otoh, is downright corny in places .....
  22. I will check this out as soon as the CD is out.
  23. I must be in the wrong forum then. Wellsir, it took me many, many years to realize that, but now that I have.... Too late to turn back now! Sometimes it's hard to face the truth .....
