  1. ... and I've deleted mine - didn't want to appear too greedy for the set
  2. That's what I would like to know, too - one of the best sounding CDs I have is a Jack Sheldon on RealTime. Found some RealTime CDs here. The main page is http://www.cnamusic.com.
  3. Forgot to say: With that rhythm section there has to be more of a Milesian influence than on Hubbard's CTIs. It's one of many albums with Miles sidemen that planted the seed of that approach.
  4. Now here's an unavoidable AOTW thread ......... If I compare it to the Hubbard CTIs, I don't find them so similar - different sound (I can't separate the CTIs from RVGs 1970's sound), and a less soul groove oriented context. I see some of those early Milestones more as a continuation or developped from Keepnews' Riverside production concept with some virtues of late 1960's Blue Note thrown in. It's nice to see how these early Milestone Henderson LPs were kind of overlooked at the time - I haerd them on AFN Europe's jazz broadcasts but they were imported only years later. Henderson toured frequently in Europe, I saw him live several times, and his reputation was probably bigger here than in the USA. Old story ... Back then Joe's approach to post-Coltrane tenor sax was fresh and just liberated from the Blue Note blueprints - I liked it a lot, it was open and flexible.
  5. I keep noticing how many jazz fans are afraid of / have aversions against some hand drummers .....
  6. What's missing is a function that sums up the prices so I know how much I am going to spend there .....
  7. Just saw that True Blue Music offers them for $ 14.98 each .....
  8. Sorry...! There are a couple of really nice tracks on the Smith CD. The title track "Straight Life" and "Minor Fare." Two Jimmy originals that are very nice. My suggestion would be to iTunes those two tracks for a buck a piece and forgetta 'bout it! I find this release to be very close to "Six Views Of The Blues." In both style and substance. I can see why they were never released. Just kind of Jimmy doing his thing without a lot of anything else going on. Certainly when you compare it to the sessions of the same era like "Crazy Baby" and "Chicken Shack". However, there is no bad Jimmy! I'm glad they did release this, so buying it would at least tell Blue Note that we want unreleased sessions and support the cause. But unless you've got to have it all (like me)...you can take a break on this one. Six Views I kept only for Cecil Payne - not an inspiring match, as it turned out. If the new one is close to this I may skip it - will listen once it is in the shops.
  9. Chico O'Farrill - Nine Flags. Impulse, recorded in November 1966, with good soloists a plenty, Clark Terry, Jerry Dodgion, Mel Lewis .....
  10. Khalil Mhrdi it is spelled in the credits of Blacknuss. The Earl Hines are the one on MPS and the other LP with Marva Josie - seems I sold both.
  11. Up - still waiting for the shipping costs.
  12. I have one or two Earl Hines LPs with him. IIRC he's on some of Mongo Santamaria's Riverside material as well. Looked it up - none less than the Watermelon Man studio session! Yes, and Roland Kirk's Blacknuss. Solid drummer, good groove. R.I.P.
  13. These compilations are long on my wish list - but I bet most visitors here hoped for a new babe thread .....
  14. Second the recommendation on the Audioquest CDs - they sound excellent, too.
  15. I had a look at the link, Mike. Does it simply display one pic, or does it cycle through all in one specified folder? MG It displays all the pics in a folder (and sub-folders, if you select that option), you can have them shown in random order if you want. I have several folders I choose from - jazz photos and album covers, sexy covers , classical photos and covers, latin and ethnic music photos and covers, etc. Sometimes I choose a folder where I store painting s of my favourite artists - that's the advantage of that software, that you can easily select and change the folder of your preference. If you chose a folder that includes other file types it selects only the jpgs, bmps, gifs, etc. Very convenient.
  16. Hugh Masekela - Impulse Dedication Series re-pressing of his Chisa double LP with Dudu Pukwana, Larry Willis, Eddie Gomez and Makaya Ntshoko - great stuff!
  17. I, too, know him as a conga player .....
  18. I use JPG Saver - a rather simple software that displays any pic from your hard disc. Just put them all into file - or several subfiles - and select them in the program's explorer window that can be reached through the desktop properties. Uses a lot less hard disk space and I see only what I selected.
  19. You can confirm the set number once you get the invoice they mail separately - I did some figuring, too!
  20. If it isn't too much work - thanks. I have 1 GB space on the e-mail adress I will pm to you.
  21. I got a used copy of the LP box edition of the Complete Art Tatum Solos at a great price - only problem is that the booklet is missing. It isn't very voluminous - 14 pages incl. the discography - but I'd like to have it anyway. I e-mailed Concord but they said they were sorry - didn't have any surplus booklets. Now if anyone had a surplus booklet or could provide me with a photocopy - costs refunded - I would be grateful.
  22. The Hutcherson sessions with Land or Spaulding and Corea or Cowell have always held a special place in my collection. I like them all. Hunted quite a few years for the LP, and got the CD as soon as it was out. But I agree that Total Eclipse is the best. It's overdue for reissue.
