  1. Great album. My only complaint is that Billy Higgins is so low in the mix he is hardly audible.
  2. He's so damn attractive - and so unsurpassable on that track with Basie. Maybe he was just too good a singer with not enough dirty bluesiness in his voice for the Stax and Motown stuff. He sings really well, but that's not his genre. That's simply what it is. I have that CD. I only new his 1940's stuff before that, but once I got over the superficial aspects, my admiration grew.
  3. I can understand that. When I was playing for dancers I always tried several spots in the room until I found the one where my conga drums sounded the best. Makes a big difference! I clubs you have no choice.
  4. My personal invention, as l rarely eat meat. But the tofu restaurants use is very different from the stuff you can buy in organic food stores, which is of much higher quality and tastes better.
  5. The weekend bottle: DOMAINE DE GRANGE NEUVE CÔTES DE BERGERAC MOËLLEUX 2021
  6. I bought a copy of the LP in the 1980's in Rome - great second hand shop. That horn section is the most imaginative that ever played with a percussion band. Blakey thought a little bit too much in terms of drummers cutting contests.
  7. As we have discussed elsewhere, Eckstine definitely would have deserved the Mosaic treatment. They did Sarah and Dinah - why not him?
  8. No matter if they're fried or cooked and sliced as a salad, the recipe works, although I dislike bacon and leve it off or replace it with small cubes of smoked tofu. Fine cut spicey pickle cucumber work in the salad, too.
  9. Probably one of the best lead alto sax players ever. R.I.P.
  10. It was a real life drama to follow his posts on Facebook. I was so relieved to read she was safe. Those gun fanatics are madmen.

    Jimmy Heath

Jimmy Heath's career has some gaps, you can read about the reasons here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Heath
  15. I always wondered why he had not as many records as a leader as his brother, or other trumpet players of his age. He was and is every bit as good. His Blue Note album Score was on CD but went oop fast, before l could geta copy.
  16. Durham did a very good job playing behind Don Patterson, on an Al Grey / Jimmy Forrest album. Scott without a bass player is promising.
  17. These things are bot operated. If only one percent falls for them they make money.
