  1. How have I missed this. It's usually my December treat...maybe over the holidays I'll get to listen
  2. Saw him with the Iyer sextet perhaps four years ago now, his playing was a highlight. 'Turbulent Flow' was a favourite on release. I should revisit it.
  3. My favourite Bley. I don't hear it's influence so strongly across other ECM piano trios, and I have a good few of them. I'd say Jan Johanson had a bigger influence.
  4. Yes, Funboy 3 after he left The Specials then The Colourfield.
  5. No! This is very sad indeed. The voiçe of so many great songs. The Specials arrived like a breath of fresh air, seemingly from nowhere and represented so much of what was, and still is, good about this country. Dammers may have been the musical genius underpinning it all but Hall was an essential part. His vocal delivery so original. the soundtrack to its time so accurately portraying the state of a nation and the legacy of political ideology
  6. Enjoyed it, thanks for posting. Password prompt appeared as I hit your link in first post
  7. Really? I saw Greizmann playing a floating 10 behind Giroud seemingly with the freedom to roam into whatever space he saw for instance left wing for that sumptuous cross to defeat England. The way Deschamps set up did require him to drop further into midfield especially against teams that pushed numbers through that area. He completed more tackles than he did in his previous guise supporting Benzema up top because he was tackling back. But France's DM was definitely Tchouaméni. He was the Kanté replacement in all their games, shielding the back four. Most of the time he was partnered by Rabiot which granted Greizmann his freedom. But maybe I read it wrong. Whatever his position he was a star if the tournament until the final where he faded. Lovely player.
  8. Very pleased that he finally got to do this. Such a special footballer. A great final.
  9. Interesting observations, thanks. Seems like it may have fallen victim to its ambition
  10. How was this Steve? Sounded potentially fascinating. UK half wasn't in London sadly I'm thinking it would not have been similar to his Electro-Acoustic Ensemble
  11. I don't go to Oto as much as I used to but do remember pre-pandemic how encouraged I was by the number of 30-somethings there were attending. It made me feel old but in a good way as I remembered how great it was to discover new music at that age myself. I do wonder whether Ms Mitchell is not Avant enough, or even not known enough, for a lot of the Oto crowd. I saw her there 4/5 years ago and no more than 20 turned up. Hope they'll be a good mix for Brotzmann in February The Vortex is interesting in the way it pulls in a younger crowd with its programme on younger, local players. Sometimes it seems it's all band mates in the audience
  12. This now. I haven't followed her career closely which by the sounds of this needs amending
  13. Me too now, thanks for the nudge. Beautiful album
  14. Oh, this is sad news. Terrific musician, generally under the radar I think I bought some LPs directly from him and he was a delight to deal with
  15. He's good and possibly better than Mount but I'm not convinced he would have made the difference. Not taking Saka off may have done so though and bringing Rashford on sooner but that's all hindsight and doesn't matter now. "We're coming home..." 😃
  16. Loving this Montreux release, on many levels
  17. Still recovering here...a more clinical and cohesive French side just outclassed a talented and likeable England team. C'mon Morocco! Because as a collection of individual talents they should be one of the best but Football's a team game and Belgium have never found a way to fully realise those talents collectively
  18. That's a good one, need to dig it out again
  19. Nice to see 'Jumpworld' on there. It made a big impression on my early Jazz listening when I was hoovering all things M-Base and JMT, although I think 'Days Aweigh' ifs stronger. I must listen to them both again. Of the other two, I don't know the Cowell but need to rectify that. The Brown I only bought recently, nice enough but didn't make a huge impression.
  20. Great Jazz album 😄
  21. Two really impressive albums
  22. Yes, that was a disappointment
  23. Thanks for responding, interesting points about the enduring impact of the Spanish Civil War (that would be a great discussion but for elsewhere). The first LMO on Impulse and 'The Ballad Of The Fallen' albums are now 40-50 years old. Of the other 3 studio LMO albums only 'Dream Keeper' continues with Spanish Civil War material. The two last don't feature it at all so it looks like Bley/Haden moved on as well after the 1991. The 'Montreal Tapes' whilst released in the 90s is an '89 concert and is Spanish influenced. Time to relisten to all six albums again. Thanks for the prompt.
  24. OK,thanks for the recommendation then!
