My apologies necessary HutchFan! I agree completely about subjectivity. I'm interested in the opinions of @soulpopeand @Rabshakehas two board members whose opinions I respect. Their different takes to an album I hold very dear intrigues me and I've just dug it out for another spin with their comments in mind. Nothing whatsoever about attempting alignment of views just want to hear if I hear it differently with other's perspectives in mind It won't stop me loving it 😀 And now I find myself agreeing with this too! So now I'm just going to listen to some music whilst watching the World Cup...

Thanks, all new names to me. This and another of their albums is streamable so I shall have a listen

Interesting, which parts? As an album that addresses the US actions in El Salvador and Nicaragua, using some old Spanish Republican tunes to do so, I agree it plays them perhaps more straight than on the Impulse issue and therefore is more brass based (almost brass band, as you often find in even the smallest Spanish towns) which moves it off the Jazz spectrum a notch. 'Ballad....' was one of the very first contemporary Jazz releases I connected with and I did so on an emotional level as well as having great sympathy for the message Perhaps I need to step back and have a more objective listen. The version of 'Silence' is heartbreaking.

Ouch, kitsch really? In what way? I find the Spanish Civil War elements essential and very moving but maybe that's just me I agree about the slant. They very deliberately address issues if the release's time, as per 'Not In Our Name', a definite statement and fine album In fact didn't Bley or Haden say somewhere that they waited for the times to feel as if they needed another LMO release each time

Sorry, yes obtuse request. That's what I was hoping to hear, thanks

Completely agree, one of my favourite TPs

10 euros?! That's almost a crime to sell it so cheaply 😲 Great bargain for you though, nice one!

Yeah, I'll second that! Just now looking at Texas/Stahl etc - All Slow Dream Gone. Looks very nice, may wait on the LP - will that get UK distribution?

Jeff Parker - Mondays At The Enfield Tennis Academy [Eremite, 2022] This is excellent, he is on such a roll at the moment. Such a shame this wasn't Enfield UK

Anthony Braxton - 12 Compositions (Zim) 2017, composition no. 402

That's the very recent reissue I'm guessing? I may get one I have an original pressing that has a scratch on the final track for about 10 revs, not sure I could cope with not hearing them 🙃

What live music are you going to see tonight?
mjazzg replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
It most surely was. Braxton played with his New Quartet - Carla Tests, Susana Silva Santos, Maria Portugal. If I understood the announcement correctly, this was the first time they had played the music live. The evident delight of AB playing with these musicians was an absolute joy to see, he fist pumped several times at the end whilst doing a little jig! The music was rigorous and engrossing in that way that Braxton music always is. Maria Portugal is someone to look out for. Threadgill and Zooid inhabited that soundworld that we know so well from the recordings. The interplay between musicians was extraordinary. HT sat out for longer periods obviously engrossed by the playing of his music. When he played, well there isn't a tone like that anywhere else. Played a lot of Poof I think. Both sets very well received by a good if not sell-out crowd -
'Ballad Of The Fallen ' very, very special record. Enjoy

I'll be meeting A Lark Ascending, who posts no longer, tomorrow for the Braxton/Threadgill doubleheader in London -
That is a high price. I paid £50 at Ronnie Scott's but was pleased to do so to see him in a small club. Pretty sure I'd pass on $100 too and I like the new trio albums mostly

Personally like you Gheorge, I don't care a jot that I don't have some kind of invented ranking/badge to show how often I post. Jim's done a great job here and why he should be bothered to fix things like rankings is beyond me really.

Never is

Every one a winner too. Very much looking forward to the CD set, thanks for posting it
