  1. Thanks for posting this, good article. I'm aways very happy to recognise her worth as an artist before, with and after her time with Lennon. I enjoyed the Serpentine show. The Beatles don't mean too much to me so never understood the backlash she experienced.
  2. Not when Bananarama wore them in the 80s but that probably says more about me than dungarees (Brit usage)
  3. That helps, thanks. On the 'to buy' list it goes
  4. I like music but only have a passing knowledge of Blues history or music theory. I fancy this book from a historical perspective. Is it for me would you say?
  5. Turntable repaired, time to catch up on new arrivals Ingfried Hoffman - Ingfried Hoffman's Hammond Tales [Philips, Germany 1963 mono] Misja Mengelberg Quartet - As Featured At The Newport Jazz Festival 1966 [Artone, Netherlands 1968 RE] Gunter Hampel Group - Music From Europe [ESP, 1967]
  6. I think they do have locale influence, Reggae retailers in Brixton and Portobello very probably reflect the community at time of their establishment. I don't think it's a coincidence that Honest Jon's has focussed on Reggae, Jazz and music from around the world. I think the DJ culture's importance in London is reflected that shops focussing on all genres of dance music are spread throughout the city. Established in the same area as the original Honest Jon's shop probably reflecting the area's cheaper rates and 'alternative' history, now almost completely overwhelmed by gentrification. No squats now for the next Clash. It was a fantastically ramshackle shop.
  7. Fascinating, I love the idea of Barnett and Ornette coinciding like that. Two of my favourite artists. I don't know Judith Lindbloom but will certainly do some research to remedy that.
  8. thanks to @Dub Modal BFT compiler extraordinaire
  9. OK, so ignoring all the blind alleys caused by mentions of Michael White and thanks to the prompts that it's not a violin that my cloth ears are hearing, track 8 is 'Bruremarsj' by Garbarek, Vesala and Andersen from the ever marvellous 'Triptykon'. https://www.discogs.com/master/108087-Jan-Garbarek-Arild-Andersen-Edward-Vesala-Triptykon Stellar trio and a fabulous album that I obviously haven't listened to nearly enough recently. Vesala was a monster precussionist and drummer. Great choice! Early Garbarek in a trio, should have got this a lot earlier
  10. Thank you,and apologies for not paying full attention to the listing. Too keen to access the music, in my defence...
  11. Someone else posted it recently on another thread - I can't remember who so can't give them their due credit
  12. Can't believe I missed Garbarek. Kudos for that spot and the way it was arrived at. I thought I knew most of his output but obviously not nearly well enough. I'm going to be intrigued come ID time. The albums with Shankar are the only JG albums with violin as far as I know. Perhaps he's not the leader?
  13. Album announced https://intlanthem.bandcamp.com/album/step-on-step
  14. I was able to slip into the church before my sister's funeral and read part of the address to an empty space, it really helped come the real thing a couple of hours later.
  15. Thanks for uploading this. Listening now and enjoying it very much Do we know who's playing with HT?
  16. Now listened to this a couple of times. I think it's one of those where it would have been better to have been in attendance. definitely some longueurs. Some nice passages where the brass get going together. Individually all play well, obviously given the pedigrees. Marsh stands out
  17. But even if you do break down it will be an honest and heartfelt reaction. I gave the address at my younger sister's funeral (my parents were too distraught to even think about doing it) and it was very difficult but I'm glad I was able to. I broke down at the end for a moment or two, no-one cared.
  18. Pleased to hear that you've got to the point where you feel the address is ready. I wish you well in its delivery at the weekend.
  19. I don't have any which actually surprises me. I'd like to hear them though - I remember being very tempted by 'Sweet Oranges' when it came out as much for its recognition of Thornton as anything else
  20. I'd buy that too, good price as you say and nice presentation. Hope it gets released over here
  21. Same here. I don't think any of Lloyd's BN releases have eclipsed any of the ECMs yet. I have enjoyed the BNs, although I thought 'Wild Man Dance' weak. Those trios are very enticing
  22. That's a really good album. I'd be interested to hear the TP, my original is in good shape so will probably stick with it
  23. Kicking myself for getting Bley and Kikuchi mixed up, not least because if the vocalisation that RH points out above (Kikuchi is indeed a vocaliser not that that bothers me one iota) but also they are quite distinct as players.
